First impression: Great delivery, as usual. The Prez is always good at that part.
Good overview of the issues facing the Union.
Small business ideas sound promising: “eliminate all capital gains taxes on small business investment” in particular
Probably will be attached to some other laws restricting other free market principles or only provide this to ‘qualifying’ investments (like alt energy, etc etc)
Good stuff, I hope he meant it and is willing to take the steps to make it reality: “I do not accept second-place for the United States of America”
This will happen with a dollar debasement or protectionist policies: “We set a new goal: We will double our exports over the next five years, an increase that will support two million jobs in America.”
I’m all for this, but will we hold teachers, principals and school boards responsible? Also, why not provide 100% education tax credits to parents who choose a non-public school? : “instead of rewarding failure, we only reward success. Instead of funding the status quo, we only invest in reform – reform that raises student achievement, inspires students to excel in math and science”
Did Tim Geithner just race over to the State of the Union after testimony on AIG today? Seriously Tim you should have had a back up shirt from the cleaners. This is the frickin’ sate of the Union dude!:http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=9681933
Glad border security got so much coverage: “to secure our borders” – sounds like a great plan.
“No wonder there’s so much cynicism out there.” – You don’t say….
Conclusion: Same faces in Washington, means not much will change.
If you’re planning on watching the President’s State of the Union with family and friends, then consider having some fun with the State of the Union Drinking Game:
Note*: We do not encourage binge drinking, but if you happen to play the game, we welcome your comments – slurred, incoherent or sober – during and after the speech.

As a direct result of that, I went through a bottle a Petron and a mini keg.
Overall, yeah…good delivery, etc. His goals, sure they sound great…but then again, everything sounds good when absolutely no details whatsoever are given on HOW we actually get this stuff done. The dog and pony show of these speeches still makes me sick…as it always has…even with Bush and Clinton.
In the end, NOTHING has changed over the last year other than the fact that we have a better public speaker for our President.
Unless something drastically changes, this WILL end very, very badly…
Hey bartender, make that a double! and beer for the guy/girl next to me!
this state of the union address is definately a KEGGER.
dude, where’s my glass? ahh, here it it! fill it up please.
don’t know where to start. i guess it’s all Bush’s fault. can this be the dems battle cry for the next 20 years? Guess so!
I drink away and listen to the song from Mary Hopkins:
Those were days my friend, we thought they’d never end. We sing and dance for ever and a day. We live the life we choose, we fight  and never lose, oh yes my friends, those were the days.
Yes, it’s a Kegger. We are so doomed!
PS. Mac, would be nice to make that a background song here.
I heard something interesting about the whole Toyota mess this morning. It seems that most of the bad accelerator pedals were made by a company in Indiana. Lovely.
When you take a step back and look at the speech and then all the idiotic commentary that follows afterward you realize a few things.
First, the President wants a jobs bill, because now he’s serious about putting Americans back to work. So what the F was the stimulus bill about last year? Is he already admitting failure on that by saying we need a targeted jobs bill? Someone please tell me what’s going on. We were bleeding jobs by the hundreds of thousands or even millions during the early part of last year right AFTER he took office. But now he’s serious? Hmmm, could it be that the Democratic majority in the Senate and House are at stake with this year’s elections and he’s trying to save face with the largest constituent in the country – us? Nah.
Second, he says he doesn’t accept 2nd place for the US anymore. Really? Tell me Mr. Obama, what are we 1st in these days? We know it’s not education, nor affordable quality healthcare, nor free market-based economy (that goes to some country in Asia, I forget which one), nor economic mobility, personal savings rate, energy independence, and a host of others. So what are we 1st in? Try imprisonment, personal debt, obesity, outsourcing, personal bankruptcy, and energy consumption. So again I ask, what in particular is he not satisfied with being second best?
You’re right Mac, same faces, not much change. I am disgusted by this media circus event, have been for 9 years now, ever since W took the helm and steered the ship straight into the sun. But hey, we’ll get a nice 1-2 day bump in the stock markets from this and everyone will feel better around the watercooler today, so that’s all that matters I guess.
I wish I could look at the speech with as much optimism as most folks around me. Sadly, I see it as more political grandstanding and posturing.

Lies, obfuscation, deceitful, disrespectful, Dictatorial at times, pandering, embarrassing, disgusting.
I can’t stand that clown and if anyone changed their minds from negative to positive for him after that speech, or you actually believe that he believes in anything you believe in then you haven’t learned a thing.
Willie Wonka is correct. O promised the world before the elections. He has fulfilled NOTHING. In many cases, he’s made things worse. The “fake war on terrorism†comes screaming out on that one. O is a pawn. He does as his masters tell him. So did Jr., “Have a Cigarâ€, Sr., Carter, etc….
Look beyond the media lies. (What group controls the media?) Find out who is pulling the strings. Who’s our enemy? It’s NOT Muslims.
Every president for the the last 20 years has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, as well as some of the more notable VP’s such as Dick Cheney. Many of these presidents, including Bary are members of the Trilateral comission. Most of the major media owners are Builderburgers. The public is fooled by thinking they have a two party system, or anything that resembles real freedom. We live in world where shopping at store x or y doesn’t matter to the owners because they own both stores. The outcome will be the same. ups?

Nice.
If you want to guarantee yourself that you get drunk, add these:
Take one shot every time Obama uses the word “crisis.” (Actually, that’s probably the only one you need.)
Take three shots if he uses “avoided” and “crisis” in the same sentence.
If he uses “avoided,” “crisis,” and “depression” in the same sentence = keg stand. (This WILL happen…so be ready to rock and roll.)

Wow, for a minute I thought you were going to use the words; Me or I when Barry spoke.
Even if you only take a drink of beer for every Me or I he says I bet its at least a 12 pack!

Close Rick, close!
“But we took office amid a crisis, and our efforts to prevent a second depression have added another $1 trillion to our national debt.”
I think that deserves a Keg stand, it’s pretty dawg-on close!
