Scientists Warn: Deadly Ancient Pathogens Melting Out Of Ice In The Arctic Could Wipe Out Human Population

In July of 2016 the Russian government deployed bio-warfare teams to the Arctic after reports that some 1,200 reindeer and 40 people had been infected with a rapidly spreading virus. The story received little attention, but it showed without a shadow of a doubt that something dangerous is lurking below the Arctic’s permafrost. As it turns out, the contagion was identified as a strain of Bacillus Anthracis, more commonly known as Anthrax, and was believed to have been released into the wildlife and human population after warmer temperatures melted the ice.

Scientists and government officials now say that the Arctic Anthrax outbreak is a warning to the human population, and that continued warming of the climate could lead to deadlier, rapidly spreading viruses that have long been believed to be extinct.

The fear is that this will not be an isolated case.

As the Earth warms, more permafrost will melt. Under normal circumstances, superficial permafrost layers about 50cm deep melt every summer. But now global warming is gradually exposing older permafrost layers.

Frozen permafrost soil is the perfect place for bacteria to remain alive for very long periods of time, perhaps as long as a million years. That means melting ice could potentially open a Pandora’s box of diseases.

The temperature in the Arctic Circle is rising quickly, about three times faster than in the rest of the world. As the ice and permafrost melt, other infectious agents may be released.

“Permafrost is a very good preserver of microbes and viruses, because it is cold, there is no oxygen, and it is dark,” says evolutionary biologist Jean-Michel Claverie at Aix-Marseille University in France. “Pathogenic viruses that can infect humans or animals might be preserved in old permafrost layers, including some that have caused global epidemics in the past.”

People and animals have been buried in permafrost for centuries, so it is conceivable that other infectious agents could be unleashed. For instance, scientists have discovered intact 1918 Spanish flu virus in corpses buried in mass graves in Alaska’s tundra. Smallpox and the bubonic plague are also likely buried in Siberia.

In a 2011 study, Boris Revich and Marina Podolnaya wrote: “As a consequence of permafrost melting, the vectors of deadly infections of the 18th and 19th Centuries may come back, especially near the cemeteries where the victims of these infections were buried.”

    Source: BBC

The BBC, Huffington Post and other mainstream media websites have already started pointing the blame at President Trump’s climate change policies, or lack thereof, claiming that further ignoring “global warming” could result in the spread of deadly pathogens across  the planet.

While we believe climate change is a real phenomenon, because, well, the climate on earth is constantly changing, and that temperatures may indeed be rising somewhat, so, too, are temperatures on other planets in our solar system, including Mars and Pluto. That suggests the cause for the changes may not have as much to do with man as they do with the most powerful force in our solar system – the sun – or perhaps some other as of yet unknown extraterrestrial catalyst.

But we digress, because the issue at hand is not so much about the causes, but rather, the inevitable consequences as permafrost across the Arctic region melts.

As a recent report about a massive ice shelf breaking off the continent highlights, ice melt is happening with ever increasing frequency.

That means there is real potential for ancient viruses to do some serious damage to humans and animals:

Some of these viruses and bacteria may have been trapped for millennia, and it’s not even totally clear yet what they are, let alone what kind of damage they might cause.

Researchers have encountered complex “giant viruses” with as many as thousands of genes in the melting permafrost of Siberia.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who has spent years in the vaccine and disease industry following his departure from the technology company, warned that there are scores of viruses deadlier than Ebola and if any of those ever got out into the general population the system would be so overloaded that literally hundreds of millions of people could die as a result.

When the threat of Ebola coming to the United States was at a fever pitch the entire country was in panic and single case of Ebola had overwhelmed the system.

Respiratory gear to protect against biological contagion had sold out across the globe and governments, especially in the United States, were trying to get a handle on it. If the Ebola virus had a faster reproduction rate than it did, the situation could have been devastating to the global population, because what we learned is that our interconnected world makes a rapidly spreading virus nearly impossible to contain.

Biological agents like the Spanish flu and plague have been responsible for the deaths of millions of people throughout history and experts say that, even with our advanced medical technologies, if the right virus were to come along it could do unprecedented damage.

We can only imagine that certain interested parties are salivating at the prospect of getting their hands on viruses so deadly that they may have caused mass extinction events in Earth’s history.

Someone here alerted this community to this very real danger of ancient pathogens released from melting permafrost more than a year ago. Who was that Masked Man ???

Yep, its in the archives. 🙂

        • So they say.

Yet, look who has patents on Anthrax and many others, and who is also “plying games” with them CIA, FBI, “US” Military, etc – go do the research. Oh, its the scum who serve within our military (DARPA), etc. Ever since the CIA brought the worst Nazis out of Germany, they have been experimenting on the population of the USA and on those who serve within our military. Germ warfare? Better do the research and make sure it was not “our” guys who did it, and it mostly is.

The other part of the equation is instilling these into our offspring personally. Public schools, colleges, and universities can not be depended upon to do so. In fact, a great deal of liberal stuff is being taught and packaged as a valuable course. And college kids get credit toward graduation for it.

Teach the children when they are young. They may stray in college or as young adults but they usually figure it all out and return to sound values. And parents need to model good values for kids to take it seriously.

      • TEST says:

And what is the actual presence of CO2 in the atmosphere? 390 – 400 ppm, or less than 0.04%, up from 320 ppm, or 0.032% 50 years ago. Of the remaining percentages, nitrogen amounts for 78%, oxygen 21%. Of the 1% that then remains, 90% of that is argon, with less than 4% of that 1% being carbon dioxide (these percentages exclude highly variable water vapor, which is usually around 1 – 4% of the atmosphere – and a much more major contributor to global warming, estimated at being 50-90% of the greenhouse effect). Of course the logarithmic effect of CO2 means each additional increase has less impact that the prior, same sized increase.

And of course, the extra CO2 has helped crop, forest and grassland plants more drought resistant, helping them grow faster and better, and “greening” vast areas that had been brown and barren. Even more, about 96 to 97% of carbon dioxide comes from natural sources, such as animals, plant decay and volcanoes.

In fact, relative to volcanoes, former FDA investigator Dr. Arthur Evangelista, noted that the 2010 eruption of Eyafjallajokull in Iceland emitted, in four days, enough CO2 in four days to negate every single effort mankind made that year to reduce CO2. But this volcano was a piker compared to Mt. Pinatubo, which when it erupted in the Philippines in 1991 “spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in its entire 40 MILLION YEARS on earth.” And this doesn’t include that fact that, as he notes the “bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.”

Jeff Jacoby, writing in the Boston Globe re. Trump’s EPA head’s comment re. the presence of C02 as the “primary control knob,” has a similar comment on CO2:
“…CO2 is certainly a heat-trapping greenhouse gas, but hardly the primary one: Water vapor accounts for about 95 percent of greenhouse gases. By contrast, carbon dioxide is only a trace component in the atmosphere: about 400 ppm (parts per million), or 0.04 percent. Moreover, its warming impact decreases sharply after the first 20 or 30 ppm. Adding more CO2 molecules to the atmosphere is like painting over a red wall with white paint — the first coat does most of the work of concealing the red. A second coat of paint has much less of an effect, while adding a third or fourth coat has almost no impact at all. There is a popular theory that atmospheric CO2 amplifies the creation of water vapor, thereby increasing warming through a “positive feedback loop.” But that theory so far is mostly speculative; climate projections using models based on it have consistently failed, nearly always predicting far more warming than has occurred. It should go without saying that if scientists cannot yet make accurate predictions about future climate change, then their understanding of climate science remains highly incomplete.

Earth’s climate system is unfathomably complex. It is affected by innumerable interacting variables, atmospheric CO2 levels being just one. The more variables there are in any system or train of events, the lower the probability of all of them coming to pass. Your odds of correctly guessing the outcome of a flipped coin are 1 in 2, but your odds of guessing correctly twice in a row are only 1 in 4 — i.e., ½ x ½ Extending your winning streak to a third guess is even less probable: just 1 in 8.

Apply that approach to climate change, and it becomes clear why the best response to the alarmists’ frantic predictions is a healthy skepticism.

The list of variables that shape climate includes cloud formation, topography, altitude, proximity to the equator, plate tectonics, sunspot cycles, volcanic activity, expansion or contraction of sea ice, conversion of land to agriculture, deforestation, reforestation, direction of winds, soil quality, El Niño and La Niña ocean cycles, prevalence of aerosols (airborne soot, dust, and salt) — and, of course, atmospheric greenhouse gases, both natural and manmade. A comprehensive list would run to hundreds, if not thousands, of elements, none of which scientists would claim to understand with absolute precision.

But for the sake of argument, say there are merely 15 variables involved in predicting global climate change, and assume that climatologists have mastered each one to a near-perfect accuracy of 95 percent. What are the odds that a climate model built on a system that simple would be reliable? Less than 50/50. (Multiplying .95 by itself 15 times yields 46.3 percent.) Is it any surprise that climate-change predictions in the real world — where the complexities are exponentially greater and the exactitude of knowledge much less — have such a poor track record?

Pruitt got it right: Measuring human impacts on climate is indeed “very challenging.” The science is far from settled. That is why calls to radically reduce carbon emissions are so irresponsible — and why dire warnings of what will happen if we don’t are little better than reckless fearmongering.”

“But we digress, because the issue at hand is not so much about the causes, but rather, the inevitable consequences as permafrost across the Arctic region melts”.

No. The issue at hand is not only the outcome but also the reason for it. If it is because of burning fossil fuels, then the logical step would be to switch to other energy sources.

When coal, oil, or gas are burned it releases carbon dioxide. (A scientific fact). Carbon dioxide traps heat from the sun’s rays and that is the reason we don’t freeze at night. (Good thing). Too much CO2 means too much heat is trapped.

There are about 9 billion people on the planet driving billions of cars daily and heating homes with gas, coal and oil… billions…

      • Braveheart1776 says:

Anonymous, fossil fuels are the ONLY energy sources available.

      • Archivist says:

We are not the cause. The earth was much warmer in the past, way before the Industrial Revolution. Every 30 or 40 years, the scientists reverse course and warn of climate disaster caused by global cooling, warming, cooling, warming. This has been going on since the late 1800s.

In case you didn’t know, the chart showing the correspondence of CO2 and temperature, when looked at closely, indicates that CO2 rises after the temperature, not before. When the temperature rises, more CO2 comes out of solution from the oceans.

The main greenhouse gas is water vapor.

The main cause of temperature changes on the earth is the sun.

And those are the actual real facts, not the fake news blasted out on TV everywhere you turn.

Assuming that the science behind global warming, funded by the globalists, was factual, the reduction plan doesn’t reduce. Because of the below I certainly question its validity.

The fact is the US and the developed world cut one unit of carbon and the developing world increased use by 1.5 units. All that the agreements have done, and one would be naive to believe it wasn’t the intent to do, is to raise the cost of fossil carbon fuel in the developed world to facilitate more and cheaper fuel for the developing world. This is just one more ostensible justification that like the rest facilitate globalization thus dropping the standard of living in the developed world and increasing it in the developing world.

Why? John Coleman on YouTube explains why. Just go to YouTube an google “John Coleman+ global warming.” IF, that is, you have the intellectual honesty to do so.

Theoretical physicist and Democrat voter Freeman Dyson on global warming: “It’s very sad that in this country, political opinion parted [people’s views on climate change],” he said, in an interview with The Register. “I’m 100 percent Democrat myself, and I like Obama. But he took the wrong side on this issue, and the Republicans took the right side.” Now retired, Dyson was a professor of physics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton between 1953 and 1994. Famed for his work in quantum electrodynamics and nuclear engineering, Dyson also worked on climate studies during his career.Climate change, according to Freeman, “is not a scientific mystery but a human mystery. How does it happen that a whole generation of scientific experts is blind to obvious facts?” The physicist and mathematician argues that pollution caused by fossil fuels has been conflated with climate change. “Coal is very unpleasant stuff, and there are problems with coal quite apart from climate,” he said. “Pollution is quite separate to the climate problem: one can be solved, and the other cannot, and the public doesn’t understand that.”

During his interview with The Register Dyson noted shortcomings in climate models. “What has happened in the past 10 years is that the discrepancies between what’s observed and what’s predicted have become much stronger,” he said. “It’s clear now the models are wrong, but it wasn’t so clear 10 years ago. I can’t say if they’ll always be wrong, but the observations are improving and so the models are becoming more verifiable.”
Dyson also wrote a strong foreword to a report published Monday by The Global Warming Policy Foundation, which calls for a reassessment of carbon dioxide. “To any unprejudiced person reading this account, the facts should be obvious: that the non-climatic effects of carbon dioxide as a sustainer of wildlife and crop plants are enormously beneficial, that the possibly harmful climatic effects of carbon dioxide have been greatly exaggerated, and that the benefits clearly outweigh the possible damage,” he wrote. http://www.foxnews.com/science/2015/10/14/obama-took-wrong-side-on-climate-change-says-physicist-freeman-dyson.html

Wouldn’t it be worth a try? The Financial Stability Board just released an estimate that the LIE of AGW will cost $73 freaking TRILLION over the next 15 years. BIG GREEN MONEY indeed. That is money that could be used for malaria research, thorium plants, medical research, education, ebola and associated types of diseases research, and a host of other pressing issues. NOT the scam of faux global warming. THAT is why not.

And we will NOT survive when true science is co-opted by political shenanigans like AGW. Hint: there IS no consensus, and even if there were, science is NEVER decided by consensus, but rather experimentation and hypothesis testing. Just ask Galileo, Copernicus, Einstein (against whom Hitler published “100 Scientists Against Einstein,” to which Einstein famously replied “Why 100? If their facts are right, only one is needed.”

You ClimateGate shills are either intellectually dishonest or not too bright (you thought we forgot that didn’t you, with Mann’s fake hockey stick, Trenbert’s “hide the decline (in temps)” email ad nauseam.

Truth is, if you control energy, you control everything it touches which is, well…. everything.

AGW is a scam, the big banksters like Goldman Suchs are all over this, and it is a vehicle to implement your Agenda 21 and world dominiation. It is also grossly unscientific, and simply a lie (cf the Medieval Warm Period, the Roman Warm Period, and the Minoan Warm Period – IF you have a shred of intellectual honesty.

Oh yeah. A study by Kegwin of marine radioisotopes in the Sargasso Sea proves that while we are much warmer than the 1800s – where we were, and still are, just emerging from the little ice age (LIA), ****we are still today BELOW the 3,000 year average temp.***

Again, you AGWers have ZERO intellectual honesty to even look up these rudimentary facts.

Here a hint: PLEASE READ THE FACTS. And no, for 73 freaking trillion, it is NOT worth a try. Unless YOU want to pay for it yourself.

There is no question that a pandemic could start tomorrow. With high speed travel it could spread all over the globe in weeks. I did hear of one sure way to kill all microbes and that is an ultraviolet-c lamp. Ultraviolet-c light is prevented from reaching Earth so microbes have no resistance to it. More horse manure from the global warming cabal. Truth is, it was WARMER during the MWP, the RWP, and Minoan Warm Period. What’s that you say? You don’t know what those are? Then you really have ZERO right to comment on the whole BIG GREEN MONEY scam.

Farley Mowat, the noted Canadian leftist and Greenpeace activist, wrote in his book West Viking (written while we were still in the global cooling scare) that there were probably at least dwarf forests growing in Greenland when the Vikings arrived in 985 AD and the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History reports “… Erik the Red discovered two areas of southwest Greenland which were suitable for farming, with grasslands and small stands of alder and birch.” You will note that it is too cold today for any type of forests to grow in Greenland, and there is zero ability to farm, unless modern technologies are utilized – and even then, crop selection is very minimal. Mowat also reported the Arctic pack ice was much less in that Viking discovery era than today. Dr. Fred Singer writes that when the Vikings first settled Greenland, they grew vegetables, and it was warm enough to allow the population to grow to 3,000 people and by 1100 AD the place was thriving enough that they had their own bishop and twelve churches.

Importantly, *************Nature reported in a 2010 article that clamshell studies also confirm Norse records. Meanwhile, the Archeological Survey of Canada has also noted around “A.D. 1000, a warmer climate resulted in the tree line advancing 100 kilometres north of its present position.” *******

Indeed, when I was visiting Iceland at Skaftafell Nat’l Park two years ago, Icelandic historians know from extant deeds – and have put in the displays at the park – that somewhere around FORTY old Viking era farms are currently buried under the Vatnajokull glacier system (the largest in the world outside of Greenland and Antarctica). In other words, it was simply much warmer in the Icelandic settlement era than it is today. We are routinely informed of the melting of Greenland glaciers today at lower altitudes, but demonstrably there are at bare minimum low altitude glaciers in roughly the same geographic area that had seen more melting and more pronounced glacial recession one thousand years ago than we see today. Al Gore may want to visit Skaftafell National Park in Iceland on one of his many jet-setting, carbon burning trips to check the facts himself.

More evidence: There are records of grape growing occurring in places in northern Europe back during this optimum where they can’t grow today. Gregory McNamee, in the Weather Guide Calendar (Accord Publishing, 2002) noted that wine connoisseurs might have gone to England for fine vintages (can’t grow fine vintage grapes there today!), that heat loving trees like beeches carpeted Europe far into Scandinavia, and Viking ships crossed iceberg free oceans to ice free harbors in Iceland…”. Art Horn writes that “In the winter of 1249 it was so warm in England that people did not need winter clothes. They walked about in summer dress. It was so warm people thought the seasons had changed. There was no frost in England the entire winter. Can you imagine what NOAA would say if that happened next year? “

On the other side of the world, research by Panin and Nefedov in 2010, where they analyzed rivers and lakes in the Upper Volga and Upper Zapadnaya Dvina areas in Russia, also found evidence of a Medieval climatic optimum in that part of the world Even worse for the warmers, recent research has found evidence for the Medieval Climatic Optimum in the central Peruvian Andes – see http://www.nipccreport.org/articles/2011/sep/21sep2011a3.html, southern South America, see http://www.nipccreport.org/articles/2011/dec/14dec2011a4.html, China, see, http://www.nipccreport.org/articles/2012/jan/18jan2012a4.html, where the author XJ Zhou notes “temperatures in the Medieval Warm Period are comparable to those in the current warm period over China,” and Antarctica, Li, Y., Cole-Dai, J. and Zhou, L. 2009. Amazingly, there is even clear evidence of the LIA and MWP in Antarctica- see http://motls.blogspot.com/2012/03/paper-antarctica-did-experience-both.html#more as well as Western Canada, as illustrated by the picture of a picea glauca (white spruce) stump on the Tuktoyaktuk Peninsula in tundra,

    40. TEST says:

More on the BIG GREEN MONEY scam: two recent papers, reported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one in Earth-Science Reviews and the other is in Chinese Science Bulletin, reported studies of “key chemical contents in micro-drilled giant clams shells and coral samples to demonstrate that in the South China Sea the warm period of the Middle Ages was warmer than the present. The scientists examined surveys of the ratio of strontium to calcium content and heavy oxygen isotopes, both are sensitive recorders of sea surface temperatures past and present. The aragonite bicarbonate of the Tridacna gigas clam-shell is so fine-grained that daily growth-lines are exposed by micro-drilling with an exceptionally fine drill-bit, allowing an exceptionally detailed time-series of sea-temperature changes to be compiled – a feat of detection worthy of Sherlock Holmes himself. By using overlaps between successive generations of giant clams and corals, the three scientists – Hong Yan of the Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Willie Soon of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and Yuhong Wang of Fudan University, Shanghai – reconstructed a record of sea-surface temperature changes going back 2500 years. The Roman and Mediaeval Warm Periods both showed up prominently in the western Pacific and East Asia. Sea surface temperatures varied considerably over the 2500-year period.” Dr. Soon concludes :” “The UN’s climate panel should never have trusted the claim that the medieval warm period was mainly a European phenomenon. It was clearly warm in South China Sea, too.”

Another study, by earth sciences professor Zunli Lu (formerly of Oxford, now at Syracuse Univ.), studied samples of crystal called ikaite, which forms in cold water, and will melt at room temperature. Samples were taken by Lu and colleagues, examined for variation caused by temperature fluctuations during formation, and dated. The result? Lu writes: “This ikaite record qualitatively supports that both the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age extended to the Antarctic Peninsula.” What does this mean? It means that the MWP was not simply a localized event in northern Europe, or even the northern hemisphere. And if it was as warm 1,000 years ago as now all over the world, Al Gore is simply wrong. Study summary by the UK Register at http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/03/23/warm_period_little_ice_age_global/
In a study by Kobashi, et al, entitled Summit Surface Snow Temperatures of Greenland, found at http://www.nipccreport.org/articles/2012/mar/20mar2012a1.html, there is further corroboration of Dr. Tim Ball’s contention that the MWP was real. In sum, this study illustrated that: “Greenland surface snow temperature variability over the past 4000 years at the GISP2 site (near the Summit of the Greenland ice sheet) with a new method that utilizes argon and nitrogen isotopic ratios from occluded air bubbles. In so doing, the eight researchers report that the average Greenland snow temperature over the past 4000 years was -30.7°C, while the current decadal (2001-2010) surface temperature at the Greenland Summit is -29.9°C, which they say is as warm as it was there in the 1930s-1940s. And they add that “there was another similarly warm period (-29.7°C) in the 1140s (Medieval Warm Period), indicating that the present decade is not outside the envelope of variability of the last 1000 years.” Even more telling, prior to the last millennium they report “there were 72 decades warmer than the present one, in which mean temperatures were 1.0 to 1.5°C warmer.” In fact, they found that “during two intervals (~1300 BP and ~3360 BP) centennial average temperatures were nearly 1.0°C warmer (-28.9°C) than the present decade.”

Oh and did I mention the Financial Stability Board just went on record as saying faux global warming was going to cost the world $73 freaking TRILLION over the next 15 years. Just google it to verify
