We win. For Now.

The Texas Congressman whose proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) prompted dozens of websites to go dark or run protest messages this week said Friday he is pulling the measure from consideration “until there is wider agreement on a solution.”

“I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy,” U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith, a Republican from Texas and the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, told Reuters in a telephone interview.

“It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products,” Smith said.

I can smell “it” all the way up here when the russian cargo capsule docks up here. You should smell what we send back! At least the U.S. shuttle brought Lysol and pre filtered their interior air.

Mush is #1 & has been around a littttttttle bit longer than you eeder. We’re watching you eeder.

        • mushroom says:

@Rocket Man…That’s why you’re burning out the fuse up there alone…cause you’re a rocket man!

          who is eeder, anyway?

Not alone. I always watch what is going on. Busy right now. On the WCS (Waste Collection System), one is American made and the other, Russian. Guess which one I use? Now you know where Mac got the plan.

Glad to help there Mush. Going over to the far side again. Later

Top of the heap always falls off sometime… 🙂

    • Highspeedloafer says:

Rich, Can you hear me way up there?

    • Palmetto Republic says:

I think there are some things that are more important than who was watching at the exact right moment to post a comment. That being said, I would have liked it to be me!

The way in which Mac has reported this event is truly excellent with the R.I.P. gravesite.

Why? I believe this is what will happen to all such invasions and crimes of force perpetrated by the federal government. History teaches us again and again that Tyranny, as cited in the Declaration, never wins.

Now we know the way in which to defeat the totalitarian enemy.

TSA violations? Black out the airlines and airports, as in a total, no-holds-barred BOYCOTT for as long as it takes.

And also with the treasonous income tax, corrupt TARP bailout, blasphemous NDAA, UnPatriot Act, and other examples of tyranny.

I understand that the idea of a blackout is easier in some circumstances than others. As other commentators have mentioned, I believe this is primarily due to the fact that the country is not a voluntary union anymore. The States and the people have utterly forgotten their right to declare UNCONSTITUTIONAL any law with which they simply disagree. The people, you, US, and I, were intended to be the interpreters of the Constitution, and no one else.

The way in which Montana is recalling its senators, for example, is the way in which EVERY state should be working. We have the power, and it depends on what we wish to do with it.

We are not the government. The government is our servant, and never the reverse. It provides us a service to defend our liberties. If I should have to think to become government in order to defend my own liberties, then that’s not a government anymore. That’s a revolution.

If you believe the government does not protect your sovereignty or liberties, then it does not take a political scientist to know that such a country essentially has a government that does not exist.

Imagine that. A government that does not exist. How’s that for blackout?

I hope South Carolina will vote for the restoration of the Revolution in Ron Paul. He seems to be the only one who understands that NDAA, the UnPatriot Act, the TSA, TARP (arguably, it is illegal seizure of taxpayer money) are violations of the Fourth Amendment.

      • Butcher says:

Sorry to break it to you, dude, but South Carolina voters are pretty stupid. They don’t understand what Ron Paul says, and are easy to deceive by the likes of the 3 Stooges. Good luck.

    • Steve says:

Too bad ACTA BILL is born and its worse then SOPA! Time too wake up people the war is far from over. PIPA is still shelved and is probably being signed in NOW.

  2. We’ll son young Skywalker, we shall see. Only now at the end do you understand the true nature of the internet.

Yeah, this is a win for now, but as I’ve previously stated, expect a reincarnation.

  3. LoL, I butchered that smack, “We’ll son young Skywalker”? We’ll see, yep.

  4. Gods Creation says:

It died a public death, but lives in private waiting for the right time to force it on everyone. was proof that it was not really needed anyway. The US had foreign governments act on its behalf.

    http: //

It’s all just a distraction from the real problem. STOP THE BANKSTERS. Then they would not pretend to have the power to do anything.

  5. DRD5508 says:

“It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products,” Smith said

Our inventions and products have been handed over to foreigners by politicians for years, think Clinton, Carter, and now Obama. So start by imprisoning the thieves in DC and those that don’t wont stop illegals from coming into this country. Then and only then can we have a discussion concerning internet theft.

  7. sclindah says:

I would not be too fast to celebrate. They will not legislate it, they will use the backdoor approach and regulate it.

    • MaximusFubaris says:

Hell, I don’t think they need a law like SOPA, they shut down one of the biggest download sites in town in the blink of an eye without any legal authorization, hell they are the law, and way above it.

      • mushroom says:

        B. Traven’s 1927 novel The Treasure of the Sierra Madre:

“All right,” Curtin shouted back. “If you are the police, where are your badges? Let’s see them.”

“Badges, to god-damned hell with badges! We have no badges. In fact, we don’t need badges. I don’t have to show you any stinking badges, you god-damned cabrón and chinga tu madre! Come out from that shit-hole of yours. I have to speak to you.”

The line was popularized by the 1948 film adaptation of the novel. In one scene, a Mexican bandit leader named “Gold Hat” (portrayed by Alfonso Bedoya) tries to convince Fred C. Dobbs (Humphrey Bogart) that he and his company are Federales:

Dobbs: “If you’re the police where are your badges?”
Gold Hat: “Badges? We ain’t got no badges. We don’t need no badges! I don’t have to show you any stinkin’ badges!”

Cheech: Badgers? Badgers?? We don’t need no stinking’ badgers!!!

I guess this kills PIPA too – does anyone know?

  9. mushroom says:

Do you suppose the folks in the district that the dishonorable Rep. Lamar Smith, a Republican from Texas will actually do something honorable and vote the bastard out? We’ll see, yep..we’ll see…hehehehh

    …#10 cans — crisp $100 bills…

mushroom – accept no cheap imitations!

    • PrinceDraxx says:

Perhaps it was the folks in Rep. Smith’s District that caused the dip shit to retract the bill by threatening to do just that.

Damn, Mushroom, inflation has arrived for you, I see. Back when you were stuffing $10s in the #10s, I figured you were sticking in enough to worry about. Now, however, I feel obliged to make sure that you know that unless you have laundered and irradiated those bills, you are going to be a sad fungus when you find they have all been destroyed by mold in the cans. Take note: Don’t bury money, bury gold and silver.

      • JRS says:

Soak em in bleach for a couple days, then put them away. May not be able to read them when you get them out, but they will still be worth the same amount as when they were printed.

  10. Sheepdog says:

They didn’t really need it anyway. The mechanism involved in shutting down a website that they wish to kill is already in their possession. They will shut down who they want, when they want… With impunity. If its too difficult to get permission to destroy your enemy, then it is better to not ask him.

I am surprised they brought it up at all, really.

“People have got to know whether or not their President is a crook. Well, I’m not a crook. I’ve earned everything I’ve got.”

  11. The Kid says:

The only way to drive a stake through the heart of this zombie is to lose all the legislators who backed it. Vote them out. It has been pulled from consideration, but who knows when it may again stagger to life, perhaps in the final hours of a midnight session on Halloween. This is all about money and control, two things dear to the hearts of politicians, and it’s not going to die a natural death. There is no honor among most politicians, only hunger and lust. This fish hook will get bundled up with some other piece of pork and thrown into the carp pond.

  12. Joerocker says:

    I’m not dead yet.

  13. its about the money says:

Silly, people, it’s not dead. They pass it under some new name like “the bill for free Americans” or “Citizen Enrichment act”, “Betterment of the future today for our children”……they lost the battle, but not the war, they’ll be back to take away your freedoms.

  14. VRF says:

why couldnt or why wasnt this done to NDAA?

    • NSBF says:

Wouldn’t that be nice. This worked because they took the very target and used it as a tool to spread the word. People were slightly annoyed by the shut-down. They were still able to go about their lives, go to work, the bank and move about. They didn’t have to see protesters walking around carrying signs but it was still in their face and they learned the reason why. Not sure how that could happen with NDAA but if someone found a way, it would be nice to wake the sheople up.

Keep on bangin’ yer head there bro…pull it out a little deeper, it hurts so good! I learned a long time ago when I was a young and dumb sailor in the Navy (Vietnam era) that you could beat your head against the cold grey bulkhead all day long and nothing was going to change. The Navy was 200 years of tradition unhampered by progress.

My Back Pages – Bob Dylan

Crimson flames tied through my ears
        Rollin’ high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
        Using ideas as my maps
“We’ll meet on edges, soon,” said I
        Proud ’neath heated brow
Ah, but I was so much older then
        I’m younger than that now…

Maybe your buddy Ron Paul will fire them all when he gets elected. Hope springs eternal. We don’t pay their salaries anymore – the corptocracy does. We are getting the best government money can buy. The taxes paid by the poplulace of this country couldn’t cover the travel and party expenses of Michelle Obomba, let alone the salaries of CONgress. The days of voting have long passed, but maybe you should call them and let them know what you really think.

The time for real action approaches. Are you ready?

I have my own belief of god and am content with that. mushroom , i appreciate that you have been around and have seen it all, however i do not agree with you. the stakes are far higher now, so i mean unless we have a natural disaster, this is by far the biggest threat.. the re election of barack obama , or the election of newt gingrich or rick santorum will be disasterous for america and the world… it will come tome to answer if it happens… im fine with where im at…. yeah i agree about the inflation and 100 s shroomy.

Lamar Smith…what a douchebag. Don’t worry, he’s not finished with it yet.

  17. We all like freedom, but should that freedom include the right to steal someone else investment, work, and Internet content? I see lots of people here lauding this decision as a great thing for freedom; the proposal clearly went too far but it was written for a purpose – to protect people’s work from thieves that think its just fine to profit from it without compensating the author or creator….screw that.

    • eeder says:

you really don not understand the point. the point is this is not the best way to go about protecting peoples work. It is way over the top and reached far beyond this. Of course people shouldnt stel, however this is not the answer, think about it.

Just more “shell game” shenanigans. Too risky to go on record voting for this prior to an election, so just wait till the public is distracted and run it through again. This time with a new title or description. But it will be the same legislation. This battle is lost folks! Censorship is already here. We only have a few fleeting moments of simulated free speech being allowed for now.

  21. JustMe says:

  25. Cynical Centaur says:

    Victory is short lived:

“Meanwhile, alternative legislation has also been proposed. A bipartisan group of senators introduced the Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act (OPEN) on January 18 — the same day as the Wikipedia site blackout.”

  26. Like Freddie Krueger, the cronies and big money will have this one return.

  27. LoonEstha says:

Lamar Smith sounds like a bitter old queen left alone at a tea dance.

  28. This is not over by a long shot. The Hollywood/Entertainment lobby is strong and next time, news and information on the bill will be kept hush hush…

This should cause people to be even more critical of all bills.

  29. Silveready1 says:

O.K. now Lamar Smith needs to be Re-called as punishment for submitting such trash!
