On June 10, 2010 President Barrack Obama signed an executive order that may very well change your life, at least that seems to be the directive in the new EO titled Establishing the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council.

After it was brought to our attention by the Nanny State Liberation Front, we took a closer look at it (and you should to – it’s shorter than the Arizona immigration law). It seems innocent enough based on its title, but like the Patriot Act, the important stuff is in the fine print.

Via NSLF:

According to the Executive Order that details the President’s “National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy,” the Council will be charged with carrying out ” lifestyle behavior modification” among American citizens that do not exhibit “healthy behavior.”

The President’s desired lifestyle behavior modifications detailed in Sec. 6 (c) focus on:

  • smoking cessation
  • proper nutrition;
  • appropriate exercise;
  • mental health;
  • behavioral health;
  • sedentary behavior (see Sec. 3 [c]);
  • substance-use disorder; and
  • domestic violence screenings.

Making matters even worse, if that is even possible at this point, President Obama will create an “Advisory Group” composed of experts hand-picked from the public health field and various other areas of expertise “outside the Federal Government.”

You didn’t really think you could go on doing whatever you want to do even though it doesn’t hurt anyone forever, did you?

Via NSLF:

Whether you are a child, a parent, a worker, or retired, the President’s approximately 25-member “Advisory Group” will soon be present in every aspect of Americans’ lives, as the Executive Order prescribes in Sec. 4 (b). Specifically, our new so-called lifestyle behavior modification advisors will be actively carrying out the President’s orders in:

  • worksite health promotion;
  • community services, including community health centers;
  • preventive medicine;
  • health coaching;
  • public health education;
  • geriatrics; and
  • rehabilitation medicine.

President Obama’s sweeping plan to enforce “lifestyle behavior modification” is chock full of open-ended target areas, especially when it comes to issues of “mental” and “behavioral” health, “proper nutrition,” “sedentary behavior,” and “appropriate exercise.” The President’s Executive Order is a blatant and forceful attempt to adjust the way Americans young and old think, behave, eat, drink and whatever else free will used to entitle our nation’s citizens to enjoy as prescribed by the Founding Fathers.

If some of these folks have their way, your cigarettes, salt, soft drinks, coffee, trans fats, candy, or decision to chill on the couch and watch TV could very well be banned in the future.

Though we’re not necessarily expecting that a new federal policing agency will be created to oversee those breaking lifestyle or behavioral guidelines, we will not rule it out at this point. We’ve seen a new level of ridiculousness in America over the last couple of decades, so anything is possible.

    Sure – I probably went certifiably insane a few years ago, but this it…Big Brother is coming.

    We really shouldn’t be surprised at this point.

    Any sort of socialized, one payer health care system (an attempt at which is just around the corner…or has already happened), is all but mathetically impossible unless the government dictates virtually every single aspect of its citizens’ lives – from dietary habits, sleeping patterns, exercise, smoking, etc.

    Even if it is well-intended, unless we put a stop to this $#!^ and get back to basic ideals of self-responsibility, this is going to end very, very badly.

    Great idea for Bush in blackface, the Kenyan Obama and his parasite government workers in Washington D.C.

    However, this cowboy believes in the U.S. Constitution, has a gun in his hand, and lives in the state of Texas.

    You can be sure that the new law will exclude those that create it.
    “Do as I say, not as I do”, has become the norm in Washington DC.
    Fat Camps
    Pyscho Camps
    Tobacco Camps
    Alcohol Camps
    Sex Camps
    All of the above would have most of Congress and the Whitehouse if they played by their own rules.What a sickening joke.

    Also, this would fall in place with the new Healthcare bill and the IRS fines.Doctor says you need to lose weight,you return for a follow up visit two months later.Doctor finds you actually gained weight and reports you.IRS fines you and deducts fine from your tax return.Threatens you with Fat Camp or jail if you don’t lose weight.
    I can’t believe the American People would simply comply with such idiocy.This is fuel for the fires.Gear up folks.

  14. Robert Menard says:

    Hey Mac, Where’s the substace, where’s the documentation in this article?  The key to it all would be enforcement provisions, if any, and any provisions, once again, if any, for punishment for non-compliance.  Anyone who thinks this nation is healthy, as individuals, is a fool or just does not know what’s going on.  Improving our health and anything that would help decrease our health-care costs is of interest to all of us, would make us a stronger nation.  Everything that you list are areas that we, as a nation, should be working on.. so the key is, how much government coersion is going to be involved, if any… because you made no mention of how this is all going to be implemented.  To automatically assume that this means the Government is going to tell you how much you can smoke, or what you can eat, is jumping to some really paranoid conclusions.  Besides that, it takes a real fool to think that industries like the agri-business, petro-chemical, seed and fertilizer/pesticide industries, among others, do or will regulate themselves and keep their poisons under control and out of our lives.  So, at least list the number of the Executive Order in question and where it can be found so we can read it and judge for ourselves.
    I agree, however, that the executive order privilege has been overused and mis used by many successive administrations and bears close scrutiny by all of us, so I do appreciate your attention to this order.

    Robert, thanks for your comments.

    I was unable to locate the EO number at the time of publishing. However, I linked directly to the EO at WhiteHouse.gov in the first link. You can go directly to the EO here:

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/executive-order-establishing-national-prevention-health-promotion-and-public-health

    Because this is a brand new order, the EO itself is more of a Presidential directive than anything else. There are no specific guidelines as of yet on how policies resulting from this EO will be implemented.

    If history is any guide, however, we will likely see the rise of government regulation in all related industries that don’t have the cash to lobby Congress, the FDA, the FTC, etc., most likely by way of outright bans (i.e. in the Raw Milk industry) or higher taxes (as we will see in the implementation of green energy policies).

    I have no doubt that there will be more regulations, but make no mistake, those regulations will not directly force large companies like Petro-chemical or agro-business companies to provide safer, less toxic foods / energy to the general population.

    Regulation of BP didn’t work out so well. Neither does the regulation of companies like Monsanto which actually do poison our food!

    What will be regulated is INDIVIDUALS. Much like the folks trying to buy poison-free raw milks currently.

    Don’t get me wrong, having a healthier, less sedentary populace is something we should be striving for, but I am not so sure I want massive government intervention into what foods I eat (or grow) or whether I smoke or not. And, most definitely don’t need a psychopathic government giving me an assessment of my mental health.

    Yes, our current lifestyles will likely raise health care costs, and now that we will have universal health care, it is a must that government begin restricting certain things in our lives in order to keep health care costs low. It’s just one thing after another though.

    First they give us universal health care and say “look, you all have health care.”  Then, it turns into “Well, health care costs are so high we need to make some changes in your behavior.”

    Well, I wouldn’t need those changes had you not socialized health care in the first place. And we wouldn’t have needed socialized health care had we taken a different approach to the problem like maybe allowing insurance companies to operate across state lines, reducing malpractice liability caps, allowing free trade of prescription drugs, etc.

    The issue I have here is that government creates a problem, and then a little while later tell us that they can fix this problem that was manufactured by the very policies they implemented. It seems there is an infinite string of problems that only the government can solve by more regulation and interference in our lives.

    Rick,

    Regardless of where we go right now, its is going to, in your words, “end very, very bady.”

    There is no way out of this. The only way out is to make it last as long as possible so the politicians the screwed us over have a chance to get to their bunkers before we put a rope over a tree branch.

    I’m ready for it to implode. I’m tired of depression lite. LGED – Lets Git ‘Er Dun!

    I’d like to see it all before they can draft my son into a fictitious war. (Which might be impossible since we’re working to revoke his citizenship status.) He may soon be part of The People and not a citizen.
