Predictable Pattern: Gun Stocks Jump After This Recent Mass Shooting

In the wake of the horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, gun stocks have predictably skyrocketed.  As with every mass shooting in recent American history, incidents like this one tend to make Americans want to take matters into their own hands to protect themselves and their families.

Shares of Sturm Ruger rose nearly 4 percent and American Outdoor Brands, formerly Smith & Wesson, rose nearly 5 percent or more in Monday morning trading. The shares are up as traders bet that more will be purchasing guns in the face of likely new proposed restrictions on guns.

But gun stocks have historically risen after high-profile shootings. After the Orlando, Florida, and San Bernardino, California, shootings, “you saw a two to [a] three-month surge in firearms sales,” said Rommel Dionisio, managing director at Aegis Capital. The two ISIS-linked attacks “certainly triggered something in the American consciousness about personal safety.”

Although a national change in gun ownership laws appears unlikely, “certainly on a state-by-state basis you can see states pass tighter gun control laws,” Dionisio said.  And president Donald Trump has agreed with former president Barack Obama on gun control in the past.

Back in 2000, Trump, in his book The America We Deserve, said he supported the 1994 federal assault weapons ban. That law expired in 2004 and was not renewed by Congress.

Gun stocks continue to rise for often months after horrifying shootings. In the month after mass U.S. shootings, Sturm Ruger shares climb an average of nearly 2.9 percent and American Outdoor Brands rises almost 5.4 percent, according to analysis using Kensho, a quantitative analytics tool used by hedge funds. The study looked at 32 instances since the Columbine High School shooting in April 1999 in Colorado.

Gun sales had climbed ahead of the election on expectations of a Democratic victory and that Hillary Clinton would increase restrictions on purchases immediately. After Trump’s win, sales of the weapons dropped and so did the shares.

  1. Western Rifle Shooters website is reporting that the shooter was anti-Trump on his face book page. And they report that he laughed with ISIS on instagram. They also have a video of the shooter and his girlfriend allegedly at an anti-Trump rally in Reno. Supposedly the reason the FBI knew of him.

  2. Infowars claims the shooter had Antifa literature in his room. Unverified at this time.

  3. Anonymous5 says:

I have a few guns I’ve been thinking of selling….just thinning the herd so to speak.

The sad reality is that I have not sold them before now because the market was “soft”.

I would imagine I’ll be able to do a little better now.

It’s a shame that the left is so predictable that you feel like you have to wait for an event such as this.

  4. TEST says:

On the topic of finance, while I LOVE what Brandon Smith writes, he is not always correct. He is the only one to predict interest rate hike in Dec.? Not so fast. 5 Min. Forecast said today “This morning traders are pricing in a 72% likelihood the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates at its December meeting. It would be the third increase this year.”

I always read Brandon, and love what he writes. He is truly a voice for freedom and truth. But, like all of us, he isn’t 100% right all the time. Correction submitted to Brandon with respect.

  5. Brian says:

The concert was country music which is associated with conservatives. The anti-gun nuts will use this to start another anti-gun campaign. It would definitely be better if he were associated with Antifa and Isis. We should wait for that to be announced on a reputable news channel.

  6. Anonymous says:

Way too many things unverified or unreported at this time.

But there is usually reports of party affiliation and such by now.

In any event, there isn’t a whole lot you can do to protect yourself from someone firing on you with a machine gun from the 32nd floor of a building other than trying your best to get out of the way before he hits you. At least nothing I can think of that would be commonly available to you all the time.

  7. The Deplorable Braveheart says:

If Trump turns out to be another ‘great gun salesman’ like Obama and Clinton, then look out. Gun show in my area Oct. 14-15. Stocking up on more ammo, etc.

    • Anonymous says:

DBH, He is a great gun salesman. He also thinks cops should have the right to do whatever they want including stop and frisk because growing up rich boy he never had to worry about encounters with cops. He still doesn’t. If he was stopped he was let go because of the family name. You put way too much trust and faith in him. She’s worse but that doesn’t mean he’s safe.

  8. Traitor Hator says:

Saw the video. Seems he took a long time to reload? Maybe 75 round drums Jamed? Or 100 round AR drums? Two windows broken out . Did he rent two rooms to switch positions to buy more time? 32 nd. Floor special number? Why not more videos of dead? 32nd. Floor 100 yards? 200 magazines? 6000 rounds? 58 kills in how many minuets? How many snipers have that many kills in months? Ricochets? What caliber bullets? Yes Anders Breivek did? Country music fans most dangerous? Seems you will find 100% Trump voters only at a country music concert? Worse thing is some ultra liberal AKA communists are very heavily armed?

  9. Traitor Hator says:

Yes now you can sell your means of arming the underfunded believers for some extra shecles goyem?

  10. Anonymous says:

Kilary Klinton came out of the woodwork for this one. How predictable.
Typical commie tactic. Never let a tragedy go to waste. Smell her agenda a mile away.

  11. the blame-e says:

The militarized police, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security are always, ALWAYS, the last ones on the scene.

With all those hundreds of concert-goers up against just one, ONE, shooter, there was not one concert goer who was carrying.

Have you heard any uplifting, propaganda puff stories about one, EVEN ONE, concert-goer returning fire? No. Because, according to the “New York Times,” and the “Washington Post,” the MSM, Hillary Clinton, and the Democrats and these professional politicians, “good” Americans are un-armed Americans, and go willingly to their deaths.

Their attitude is: “If you were a good person you wouldn’t need a gun.”

Oh, yeah. The idiot MSM wrote some puff piece about one, ONE, of the concert-goers flashing the finger at the shooter(s).

    Pathetic.

We are at war people. At war with these shooters. At war with our own government.
