Government officials are worried that a new breakdown in talks with North Korea could trigger a war. With heated rhetoric taking the stage instead of diplomacy, it could only be a matter of time before the anger hits a boiling point.

Joseph Yun, a top American diplomat to North Korea, has been warning of the breakdown in meetings on Capitol Hill and seeking help to persuade the administration to prioritize diplomacy over the heated rhetoric that appears to be pushing the two nuclear powers closer toward conflict, sources familiar with the discussions told NBC News. Diplomatic efforts between the United States and North Korea are in peril with Pyongyang shunning talks in response to President Donald Trump’s increased public attacks on Kim Jong Un, according to multiple U.S. government and congressional officials. Yun claims the White House has “handicapped” the chances of diplomacy.

As Trump prepares for his first official trip to Asia next month, the tensions between the U.S. and North Korea continue to tighten. The government officials sounding the alarm also explain some of the worrisome comments that have been made by Republican and Democratic Senators in recent weeks, most notable Foreign Relations Committee chair Sen. Bob Corker who has said repeatedly that the president is undercutting diplomatic efforts.

“When you kneecap that effort you really move our country into a binary choice which could lead to a world war. So yes, I want him to support diplomatic efforts, not embarrass and really malign efforts that are underway,” Corker said on NBC’s TODAY  on Tuesday.

Not many actually believe that Trump will be ordering a preemptive strike on North Korea, but a lack of communication between the two countries or through Chinese channels increases the chances of miscommunication, which would inevitably lead to further escalation of already bowstring tight tensions. Yun’s diplomatic efforts are on their “last legs,” one U.S. official said, adding that Yun is frustrated by an inability to communicate the urgency of the diplomatic situation to the White House.

“It is not so much that North Korea is shutting down, it’s that the message from the U.S. government is, ‘surrender without a fight or surrender with a fight,’” a separate U.S. official told NBC News. North Korea feels backed into a corner and with a fascist leader with self-control issues like Kim Jong-Un at the helm, the choice could easily be to fight.

Yun was not available to comment, but East Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau spokesman Justin Higgins told NBC News: “We can’t comment on allegations from anonymous sources. What I can say is that Ambassador Yun has been faithfully executing the Trump administration’s North Korea policy since Jan. 20, including his trip to North Korea at the president’s direction to bring American citizen Otto Warmbier back to the United States after a year in captivity.” The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo said last week that North Korea is only months away from perfecting its nuclear weapons capabilities. “They are close enough now in their capabilities that from a U.S. policy perspective we ought to behave as if we are on the cusp of them achieving” their objective of being able to strike the United States.

  1. They need bigger hats.
The GE should explain everything to corker, who can obviously keep his mouth shut and is a towering intellect. He can certainly string what-ifs together.

  2. GrandpaSpeaks says:

The Wolfowitz doctrine was always nothing more than a school yard bully tactic doomed to fail but guaranteed to backfire. I don’t remember getting a say when this think tank policy was introduced. Remember to make them culpable for liability when it fails. But of course that is why Congress never authorizes action in the forever war. Plausible deniability for actions undertaken by any of the myriad of rogue unconstitutional agencies. They might as well do nothing, so they do.

  3. Sgt. Dale says:

The only diplomacy they kno9w is the US Guberment giving in.

Damn I wish John Wayne would have been Prez.20 years ago. Today we wouldn’t have to worry about this little fat fag nuking us.

  4. Frank Thoughts says:

It would make sense to strike now and not wait until they have advanced the missile program. Essentially, a three-prong lightening attack could get the job done.

Prong 1: Wipe out, over night, using air raids all surface and known underground facilities. This would have to be many times more significant than the ‘shock and awe’ on Iraq. This would need to take out the artillary and much of the surface military. Deep penetrators, mini nukes, fuel-air burst and other secret weapons to take down the entire infrastructure in one go.

Prong 2: When day breaks and the NK’s wake dazed and confused and start fuelling missiles for retaliation, hit them again with a day-light cruise missile strike. Also use drone hellfires to pick-off anyone who puts their head above the parapet. And artillary being rolled out needs to be taken out. Day light needs to be about picking off visible targets and keeping most of the NK assets underground.

Prong 3: Invasion. While they are pinned down in their bunkers, start coming across the border from SK to create a safety buffer zone. Initiate a sea invasion from the east side with the goal of cutting off Pyongyang from the rest of the country. Pyongyang is the only modern place they have, the rest of the country is butt-fuck, so rolling up the countryside is a quick goal. Pyongyang is the tricky bit. It is all underground and designed to hold out. This is where deep penetrators will need to be launched in waves to pound the NK positions. This could take up to a month.

Few were alive when Great Briton’s Chamberland continued to negotiate with Adolph Hitler , while Germany was preparing to invade Europe starting WWII. Of course the U.S. politicians do not want war which would eliminate their political power.

Strike the snake as it rises and before it strikes. The U.S. may lose some countries and U.S. cities over this, but we will not lose our liberty and freedom . Chack any losses up to Bush, Clinton and Obama.

  5. Kevin2 says:

The technology to 100% of the time (with redundancy of course) hit a missile in flight is just around the corner with the next generation of weaponry.

I have no desire to see Americans engaged in a mano to mano with North Koreans on their turf. Freeing their citizenry from oppression translates to a pile of cheap labor for the globalists.

  6. Michigan Wolverine says:

Dontcha just live how everyone falls for these distractions?
Gives D.C. All the room to F ck us while most of the people are worried about this bread and circuses

So many sheeple , so little time

    People , were reliving history
This is the only game they have
And if we keep “playing along ” we’re gonna get Fck’ed … again

    • Heartless says:

Exactly MW, exactly. This is the game on time. Things are rapidly falling into place. Sort of like one of those immense domino setups. Almost all the tiles have been placed and the single push is just about to happen. Nothing about this has to do really with NK. Just one big-ass excuse to drop the hammer on the world and reset it to the powers-that-be’s liking. Gunshow in my neck of the woods this weekend and it’s time to top off. Might be the last chance.

  7. The North has huge underground tunnels. Trucks and tanks can move through there. Probably come out in South Korea. Over a million man army. We actually don’t have enough bombs to destroy enough of them before they retaliate. They do have subs. And mini subs. Their air force? I don’t know. Their navy? Not sure how big it is. They have a lot of artillery. Lots of artillery. Can we beat them? Yes. There will be a price tag on that. Also, the Chinese said, if we hit first, They will help the North Koreans. Can we beat the North and China on their ground? I’m not real sure about that. Lots and lots of casualties. Our country doesn’t like many casualties. South Korea and Japan will not be happy at the losses that they take. May cost their governments to be thrown out.

    • Frank Thoughts says:

All true but I think our ability to take substantial battlefield casualties is a metric that has changed. The populations in the two main war-fighting countries, the US and the UK, have substantially changed to mean that the sort of cohort that will make up the troops are blacks, Muslims (including some seriously battle hardened jihadis), Hispanics and other third worlders. These are all cultures with lower IQs, more aggression, easier to manipulate. Roll Obama out with some stuff about how its time we showed this new world of a non-white America, and the war drums would bang to a hip-hop beat. All you have to say is that the NKs are a bunch of rayciss, n-gger haters and the ‘black community’, Antifa, Black Lies Matter will be behind the war 100%. Claim the Fat One hates LGBT folks and the mainstream of America would be gung-ho for war. Look, I have been selling wars for decades now. It ain’t that hard, dude.

Change the national anthem into a rap song and send the naggers and waggers in! All refugees must go too! Draft the entire democrat party and have a party lol. Cannon Fodder AWAY!

        • Genius says:

Oh and arm them all with single shot .22’s 🙂

        • Frank Thoughts says:

The secret sauce is the Muslims. They were placed at all high levels of government by Obama during his eight years. Now it is time for them to show their true loyalty to America and sign up to fight North Korea, China and Russia. “White men can’t fight” will be the new motto. “Get yo ass to a fire base!” will be the most popular rap song, and off they will march, the new coalition of the new America.

      • Jeff says:

That must be an interesting world you live in…..you seem like youve got things figured out, but something tells me that aint the case. Bet youre the loudest guy at the bar too.

  8. AUBroker says:

A 5 Megaton airburst over Pyongyang at 6,000 feet should just about do it. Maybe 2 of them.2 ICBMs. Cheap. War over. Bye Kim.

  9. Concerned-Citizen! says:

The FAT gay rocket boy needs to be killed period!

  10. Darkwing says:

Trump/ Clinton we will have war with North Korea and or Iran: two reasons: one jew land and the other is that both countries have central banks.

  11. ptchfork says:

Like NBC News has any credibility in the first place.

  12. It’s time for a red flag followed by removing North Korea from the face of the earth.

  13. Without war the US collapses its a war economy and has been for the last 100 years

  14. Magnum says:

This article reflects the tired philosophy that has infected Washington for years. Liberals and GOP frauds like Corker would have us essentially bribing N. Korea to maintain some semblance of peace. N. Korea has nothing to negotiate with – they have nothing. Their only bargaining chip is to create uncertainty and anxiety if we don’t give them concessions. Clinton gave them billions in “humanitarian aid” in the 90’s to behave, which was instead used to strengthen their military and pursue nuclear weapons. Today we face a larger threat from these losers, precisely because previous presidents and congresses chose to kick the can down the road.
