Floods? Watch This Prepper Save His Home From Encroaching Water

If the water is climbing up, there is generally nothing you can do about your home, business or property.

Louisiana is experiencing this first-hand as a reported 20,000 people have been rescued – some dramatically – and countless others have been endangered from what turned out to be a flash flood of almost biblical proportions. Out of nowhere, total disaster is reigning down on Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.

Time and chance, it seems, bring ruin.

However, for the determined, there are ways to hold the flood waters back.

This is how one homeowner successfully did so, back in June 2016, when Rosharon, Texas flooded (near the Brazos River just south of Houston) and countless homes were damaged or destroyed by the water.

Defending his homestead, Randy Wagner decided to invest in some preventive flood insurance via an $8,300 Aqua Dam, a giant tube-like barrier that is filled with water, and designed to keep out water.

The flood barrier worked, and cameras show the sanctuary around his yard as the entire surrounding area is drenched in several feet of water.

It made a big enough impression to make the local news. The area is mainly flat, and there isn’t all that much high ground, so the extent of damage was widespread and many people’s lives were impacted:

Few things can hold back flood waters, and many areas are hit sooner or later with historic levels of flooding, that often take their toll not just in damage but in lives.

$8,300 – that amount of money is a sizeable investment that most would not or could not make beforehand, particularly with so many other things competing for priority. But it saved this man the inconvenience of losing things that are irreplaceable, and the hassle of having to start all over again.

There are industrial-sized versions that have been used to dam up rivers and waterways and they have been used in disaster response as well. Particularly if you live in a flood-prone area, it may be a safeguard worth considering.

    via YouTube:

A lot of people view preppers in a negative light given the way most media outlets portray them. All too often the focus is on paranoia of a looming apocalypse, but the prepper lifestyle is incredibly advantageous especially during a natural disaster. People thought Randy Wagner was crazy when he drove from Texas to Louisiana to pick up a $8300 Aqua Dam, but after the horrible floods in Texas the investment proved invaluable.

The 30″ tall tube can be filled with water to hold back flood water. According to Wagner, “I was the crazy guy. Everybody was kinda, y’know, goin’ by laughing at me. But today they’re really impressed with this.” When the floods came, water reached a depth of 27″ but never broke through his barrier. Once the cost of flood damage has been taken into account, $8300 seems a negligible price to pay to save your home.

Intelligence and thoughtful design of your home and its property can save you from the ruin of predictable natural disasters, and reinforce your family’s chances to survive and withstand many types of threats that can come.

If your home is your biggest investment, does it make sense to prevent it from the worst scenarios?

or better yet, pick high ground when shopping for a house, something i always take into consideration FIRST…i just imagine what it’s like in a heavy downpour…but a good article mac, thanks!

      • docneph@gmail.com says:

        Mac,

Just a quick note: Thanks for putting a spotlight on the ongoing disaster down here. Some of my relatives did have to evacuate, one lost a dear family dog that took shelter under the house and could not be retrieved before it drowned and the family was forced to evacuate. As long as there is life, there is hope. We can always rebuild.

Food and water, shelter are the basic needs of the day as families abandon homes and homesteads due to rising waters. Much of where the flooding is taking place in East Baton Rouge/Hammond area has not seen this kind of water in a generation or more and some folks did not even have flood insurance. Many did not anticipate having to evacuate and had to be rescued as the flood waters very quickly surrounded them, some during the night. The highways became impassable in many places. Sewage, electricity, running water will take time to restore in many places. The clean up process has begun in some places but there is some cresting yet to take place in some of the local rivers.

We are O.K. where we are, but, this just shows that we should always be prepared. Hurricanes, Tsunamis, Earth quakes, Wild fires, etc. attract a lot of attention, but people forget about the dangers of flooding. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers,

        Louisiana Eagle

I can’t see how the thing is picking up as much moisture as it is, and continually dumping as well. (Unheard of weather for those parts).

Makes one ponder how many more ‘disasters’ (like Florida’s bloomin’ Algae), floods of ‘biblical’ proportion(s) (nearly so thus far). Being it’s a first, I’d put it right up there with ‘damned strange’ weather. I have heard parts of Georgia are a bit soggy in places too, but nothing from anyone we know personally.

      • vocalpatriot says:

biblical proportions?!? you smokin’ that funky thinker weed??

      • WhoWTFKnows... says:

This chick friend sent me photos of the flooded out areas there in Louisiana, and much of the flooding was up to the rooflines of many new like homes, not just fee feet. Very sad. She said it flooded in areas never ever flooded before, and said much of this is to blame on the Army Corps of Engineers, stopping flooding in one area, but the water diverted to entirely new areas. Brilliant eh?

She said one thing that was amazing, and that was the American Spirit, of Americans helping Americans people you did not even know, lending a hand helping moving furniture to higher areas of homes, or stopping traffic so people did not drive down into a flooded out street that would disable cars. Many people with airboats, helped stranger evacuate, and helping rescue by picking up peoples pets. As you recall during Katrina the Government would not let you take your pets with you when they evacuated with you, so you pets were left to die or fend for themselves. Do you have several months of food supply for your pets?

She said, that her place was not in any flood zone designated area, but the water was up to her doorstep, and luckily did not get in her house. And she is not required to have flood insurance either, so it was a complete surprise to many. So watch people’s flood insurance costs expand to new areas now.

She also said her boys were bringing over their laundry over to do at her place, because their places were flooded out. So get the 2 x 5 gallon bucket set aside for laundry (one wash tub and the other a rinse tub) and get the clothes plunger agitator tool, online for like $12. Have it as a back up. As Body hygiene and keeping your clothes clean are important. I also try to keep at least 10 cases of bottled water 2 yr expiration and rotate that out, as well as a dozen 2.5 gallon water tote containers with a spicket on the end so you can efficiently was your hands or do dishes with running water. Try washing your hands with a bottled water. Not that easy. That is what the luxury of a spiket type container that provides a stream of running water to rinse hands and dishes are for.

Go off the grid and try to see what challenges you face for daily living. I have been at my Off Grid BOL location now for 18 months. The entire place is one big experiment, seeing what works and what doesn’t. Cause when SHTF happens, like in this case you will quickly see what your failures are. The more prepared you are to deal with it (what if’s), with your stocked preps the less stress and frustration you will feel in a crisis. I bet so many unprepared people are so over whelmed right now, they just sit and cry. Well that is failure.

Failing to plan, is a plan to fail.

    3. Equorial says:

There’s some ‘odd activity’ taking place all through The Smokies. In several “dicey” areas there are rock formations that lend themselves to ‘lift’ (by ice in winter), and eventually break it free from the mountains to slide down to the roads below. In my area they are ‘blowing back’ all this ‘scaled’ rock and also drilling/welding big ole rebar-rods “hard” into the rock.

It’s a no-brainer when you also consider the bridges are also being closed in 15 minute intervals, then open again for traffic to pass (this is being done on the largest two bridges, and oldest).

I say “no-brainer” because it is obvious they are “beefing things up” to withstand “a whole lotta shaking” – – trouble is, we do not know from what sort of force …they seem to as their work is 100% anti-seismic by design (using rebar to reinforce ‘rocks that will just break that steel and slide anyway’) (They need a giant steel fence at the bottom to stop falling “houses” …which happened a few years back and closed it for the entire summer).

BAD SPOT for a BOL. One earthquake and the world would be upside down due to natural formations “gone crazy”…

      • Babycatcher55 says:

Only if you take the interstate. We were just there Saturday. Saw the construction zone but traffic was light. Depends on where you are in the Smokies. There are three other ways to ” go over the hill”. 🙂

    4. “EH” Put your House on a barge so when high tide comes it Floats up With Proper Anchors it Won’t Float away carport too

    5. Equorial says:

HOW TO MAKE A “TIME DELAY” ROCK BOMB/FIRE PIT COMBO

Should part of your BOL “stomping grounds” include water (brook, stream or lake), and fishing is profitable for survivalists (who WILL know how to catch fish if they are there), if they are determined to be “unwanted folks” “set them up” with an almost “lavish stone pit fire hole” (that even has some tinder in a zip-lock and matches …make it look “often used” (blacken the stones (inside) with charcoal you make (and you’ll need “cold charcoal” to leave as a ‘bed’ for the next fire (and you could even have that all built except for the ‘ignition tinder’.

To “kill” those rocks HAVE to be “blackened” very well, however, you want to find three or four “river stones’ that are somewhat flat (to stand up on edge), and place them CLOSEST to the hottest part of the fire. Over several hours of the usual “lazy” campfire will cause the water impregnated in the river-rocks to reach incredible pressures (steam seeking a way to escape). Assuming you’ve used as porous a rock as possible, means that one will be the first to just “give it up” and explode “in all directions” (and anyone within 30 feet of the fire won’t make it).

*Ensure the locals KNOW of it, of course. Of course, if you are good with ceramics, you COULD “fill a rock” with Tannerite, about a coke-can full of “mixed” tannerite and shoved into whatever to make it appear ‘rock-like’. Hotter it gets the more unstable, but it would still require the ‘shock’ of a bullet hitting and that’s why you purchased a “hush puppy” silencer (but then again the danged boom is going to reach out about 100 feet removing all ears and eyes with it). Then get off the X and return to base…

      • Milo Mindbender says:

If left out and exposed, the soaked rocks will eventually dry out. Waterlogged rocks are a hazard, but unless you are resetting monthly, they will be ineffective. I would not plan on granite claymores wiping out mauraders, with nothing stronger than a small fire.

    6. Equorial says:

The preceding article was “how to cook with Tannerite” and not how to make exploding rocks in campsites, unless you can get a Muslim to hire YOU to build them a rock fireplace (and build it ALL out of river rock).

      Sooner or later…

    7. Plan twice, prep once says:

When the big storm hit my area a few years ago, I picked up plumbers pipe plugs and extra wax seals for toilets. Less than $20.

If my house faced imminent flooding, I’d pull the toilets, plug the sewage lines, and turn on clean city water and flood the inside to match the outside rising dirty water.

In a flood situation have a plan for saving/ preserving firearms and preps.

    8. Asshat says:

Don’t see how this aqua dam can work. Water should be seeping up inside the so called dry area. The reason the water is everywhere is the water table under the ground is saturated and the water has no where to go. When we had our 100 yr flood there was no water around my house but water was seeping into the basement through cracks and the bottom of the chimney. If I didn pump it out right away I would’ve had about 8 inches. Cause I pumped it out it never got above 2 inches. Took 3 days for water to stop seeping in. My basement is always dry normally. I’d say try a little experiment in a kiddie pool fill it with dirt to simulate the ground build some kind of round wall within the center then flood the surrounding area. I guarantee it will seep up into the dry circle area and saturate it. You could pump it out but the ground would still be liquid mud. I’m no expert but this is my findings based on my experiance. His basement is full of water. When earthquakes happen the ground liquifies. I wouldn’t spend $8300 on this to protect my home. I could see it working for keeping the highway open if the water floods it out during heavy rains. Reason why is the pavement would stop most of the water from seeping up probably. Think about what you can do with $8300.

      • Old Guy says:

It would work as long as you pumped out water faster than it came in. Did you ever see those bar pits alongside the highways. they are full of water because they are below the water table. When they removed the dirt they ran several pumps and kept them dry enough dozers and earthmovers could work.

    9. Frosty1 says:

We might very well be in the early stages of a pole shift.
Best case scenario will be the start of an ice age that devastates all of North America and most of Europe.

Keep your eye on any Intel involving active underwater volcanoes.
Many have yet to be mapped.
I’m am convinced they are responsible for the increase of sea surface temps that ultimately causing what you have been seeing in West Virginia , Wisconsin, Louisiana , Arizona the Philippines and even the Sahara desert if you have been paying attention .

No way I can lay out five years of data on an iPhone but have some data that I consider to be empirical suggesting winter is going to be a Bich .

The First Seal: The White Horse
1Then I watched as the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say in a thunderous voice, “Come!”
2So I looked and saw a white horse, and its rider had a bow. And he was given a crown, and rode out to conquer and defeat.
      The Second Seal: War
3And when the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!”
4Then another horse went forth. It was bright red, and its rider was granted permission to take peace from the earth and to make men slay one another. And he was given a great sword.
      The Third Seal: Famine
5And when the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!”
Then I looked and saw a black horse, and its rider held in his hand a pair of scales. 6And I heard what sounded like a voice from among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius,a and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not waste the oil and the wine.”
      The Fourth Seal: Death
7And when the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!”
8Then I looked and saw a pale horse. Its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed close behind. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill by sword, by famine, by plague, and by the beasts of the earth.
      The Fifth Seal: The Martyrs
9And when the Lamb opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony they had upheld. 10And they cried out in a loud voice, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge those who live on the earth and avenge our blood.”
11Then each of them was given a white robe and told to rest a little while longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers, were killed, just as they had been killed.
      The Sixth Seal: Terror
12And when I saw the Lamb open the sixth seal, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black like sackcloth of goat hair, and the whole moon turned blood red, 13and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, like unripe figs dropping from a tree shaken by a great wind. 14The sky receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved from its place.
15Then the kings of the earth, the nobles, the commanders, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and free man, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16And they said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide usb from the face of the One seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb. 17For the great day of Theirc wrath has come, and who is able to withstand it?”

13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
