California Has A Commie Plan To Tax Text Messages

Apparently, not enough things are being taxed in California, so the state has come with another way to steal even more money from its citizens. California has now formulated a plan to tax text messages.

California state regulators are working on a plan to charge cell phone users a fee for text messaging, all in the name of collecting taxpayer money to pay for programs to make phone service cheaper to low-income residents, the San Jose Mercury News reported. There’s an ongoing quest in California to make sure the state confiscated through theft and extortion as much money as possible.

No one yet knows how much cell phone users would be charged, but the Mercury News says the fee would “likely would be billed as a flat surcharge per customer — one of those irksome fees at the bottom of your wireless bill — not a fee per text.” Nonetheless, it will be a tax and extorted.

According to The Daily Wire, business groups, including the Bay Area Council, California Chamber of Commerce, and Silicon Valley Leadership Group, and others opposing the idea, calculated the new charges for wireless consumers could total about $44.5 million a year. But they add that under the regulators’ proposal the charge could be applied retroactively for five years — which they call “an alarming precedent” — and could amount to a bill of more than $220 million for already heavily taxed California consumers.

A dense California Public Utilities Commission report attempted to argue the case for the texting surcharge. The report says the Public Purpose Program budget has climbed from $670 million in 2011 to $998 million last year. But the telecommunications industry revenues that fund the program have fallen from $16.5 billion in 2011 to $11.3 billion in 2017, it said. “This is unsustainable over time,” the report says, arguing that adding surcharges on text messaging will increase the revenue base that funds programs that help low-income Californians afford phone service.

The California Public Utilities Commission is set to vote on this new theft tax surcharge next month but added that some business councils object to the plan. “It’s a dumb idea,” Jim Wunderman, president of the Bay Area Council business group, told the paper. “This is how conversations take place in this day and age, and it’s almost like saying there should be a tax on the conversations we have.”

At any chokepoint, intersection, or wherever something is popular.

If you make the argument about sin, entertainment, or whatever they are trying to tax, you have already lost the argument.

  2. Yohan Smythe says:

That is how they all do it!
Figure out what the masses are doing, and tax it.

  3. john stiner says:

Americans are being over taxed so badly that it will turn everybody into a tax cheat. You will have to cheat on your taxes to to live.

  4. lena says:

fine by me I send about one a month and leaving a voice message is faster than typing a text message anyways.

No this is not sarcasm or a joke.

  6. Dead Meat says:

To bad they won’t tax “stupid”. Bona-fide cash cow these days.

  7. Philosopher Deplorabilis says:

This doesn’t surprise me at all. Commiefornia needs more and more tax $laves to maintain their version of communism. Great for the apparatchiks and politicians, and hell for everyone else.

Eventually there will only be three groups left in Commiefornia: the wealthy, the poor, and the apparatchiks.

  8. blinky says:

And California still has residents. Amazing.

  9. southside says:

I for one am sick and tired of being taxed to “help the poir with this and that” Let them pay full price for everything like the rest of us,and maybe they will be more responsible with the other free money they get. .Damn I’m tired of this shit. 😠

  10. Philosopher Deplorabilis says:

Just when you thought Commifornia couldn’t get any more stupid, there’s this:

“California State Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) has introduced a bill that would guarantee a “right to shelter” and provide housing for every homeless person in the state.

The bill, SB 48, declares: “This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that creates a right to shelter for unhoused residents throughout the state.”

According to the bill, the “right to shelter” would include:

    (1) A safe place to sleep and keep one’s belongings.

    (2) An ability to access the shelter without having to sign up on a daily basis.
    (3) An ability to remain with one’s partner.
    (4) An ability to access services necessary to stabilize one’s life and transition into supportive housing or permanent housing, including mental health, addiction treatment, and other services.”

Give em tents…after that they are on their own.

  12. Charge retroactively!

That would set a legal precedent that could destroy a person financially and literally legalize theft.

Add a tax to your utility bill.

Add a tax to your mortgage.

Add a tax to your taxes.

Retro means after. After you have already paid your bill they want to charge you more. That’s insane.

We need to know who is promoting this.

    • Mountain Trekker says:

B from CA you want to know who is promoting this, well it’s the same ones that will go down to the poll and vote YES on a tax increase at election time. It blows my mind that 9 out of 10 time they put a tax on the ballot it will pass. Trekker Out

  13. Low-income Californian = illegal immigrant

  14. Brian says:

With so many people escaping from California, they have to squeeze more from the ones that are left. Add to this, more creative ways to spend the taxes they do get. As this happens, expect more incredibly vicious ways to get tax money. Heaven help the poor soul who is the last taxpayer left!

  15. The first phase of a take-over is to pass enough laws and regulation so that ‘everybody’ is doing something, or has something illegal. The they can target ‘anyone’ for financial or criminal elimination. They start with the most egregious of us (usually at the top: politicians, celebrities, etc…)that stand up against their tyranny…and work their way down until everyone submits. I.e, no one left that is willing or able to stand up. This is the game plan. It was always the game plan of every tyranny any that arose throughout history.!!!!

  16. Heartless says:

Heck, as I’m not a mobile device user (just don’t need one) – I thought “darn, good deal!!! and if they’d only use the location information contained in all such text messages, how about taxing and penalizing anyone found texting while driving too!!?”. Yeah, I know – I’m a Luddite. And I sure am against any tax in reality. But it sort of delighted me to know that all the millennials are going be hit by something like this.

  17. Greg says:

Politicians do not comprehend budgeting. They fail to understand you should only spend money that they have. The media does not explain that reducing the deficit only means that we are not overspending as much.

  18. M Edward says:

All California democrats should be arrested under the ‘Patriot Act’. And then……

Ted Lieu, a HR from California is obviously a Chinese agent working toward the Communist end-game with Israel and Russia. His sponsorship of H.R. 6725 United States-Israel Directed Energy Cooperation Act of the 115th congress is proof of this.

DEW has been used in California to start most of the ‘wild’ fires over the last two years – at least.

As that Christian saying goes, ‘God will judge them, we’ll provide the transportation’

    Tick-Tock.

  19. texasrebelguy says:

That just goes to show how many idiot’s there are out there now. Only an idiot would vote for a group of people that will tax them to death.
