A South Carolina Nuclear Fuel Plant Has Leaked Radioactive Pollution

Radioactive uranium has leaked through the floor of the Westinghouse South Carolina nuclear fuel plant and contaminated the soil. The Westinghouse fuel factory on Bluff Road, located in Richland County, also has a nearly 35-year history of groundwater pollution from the plant.

The most conflicting part of the entire uranium leak is that officials with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control said they have no reason to believe the uranium has trickled off the site or that public water supplies are threatened. But, the agency also said it does not have the results of recent groundwater tests on the Westinghouse property either, meaning they actually don’t really know what the extent of contamination could be. Those test results will show whether pollution in the soil washed into the area’s shallow groundwater, which seeps into creeks in the Congaree River floodplain.

However, the plant does have a 35-year history of polluting the groundwater. According to The State, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the uranium, a toxic substance used to make nuclear fuel rods, seeped through a 3-inch hole in a concrete floor in part of the factory where an acid is used. The hole extends 6 feet into the ground, according to the NRC, which learned of the leak back on July 12.

Much like the Fukushima radiation issues, we likely won’t know the extent of the dangers to human health until its too late. It seems like for some reason there isn’t a lot of information available, and the information readily obtainable is contradictory. Most of the mainstream media and government agencies were silent on the extent of radiation contamination in the wake of the Fukushima plant’s damage.

NRC records show uranium pollution reached 4,000 parts per million in the soil beneath the plant. Those levels are 1,300 times higher than the amount of uranium typically found in soil, records show. Soil usually contains about three parts per million of uranium, according to the Health Physics Society, a radiation safety organization. –Health Physics Society

Elevated levels of uranium in drinking water can increase a person’s risk of kidney damage, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Over the course of a lifetime, exposure to uranium also can increase a person’s risk of cancer, the agency says. Roger Hannah, a spokesman for the NRC in Atlanta, also said it does not appear the uranium has spread off the site, calling the contamination “very localized.’’ However, he added that the agency is currently still investigating the leak to learn more about what happened and how badly the surrounding area could have been contaminated.

That’s just like a gov agency to BS everybody. No question they’re covering up something really serious.

  2. Safe forms of energy like the hydro-car are suppressed because nuclear is profitable and can be used as a weapon against those depending on it. Go natural off grid as much as possible. Those houses built with earth bags, air-Crete, Adobe, and so forth make real sense. As of now, they are affordable. Off grid living our way or theirs.

That’s right across town. How very comforting …

This is off topic but it’s funny and true.

    The Fiancé

A young woman brought her fiancé home to meet her parents. After dinner, her mother told the girl’s father to find out about the young man. The father invited the fiancé to his study for a talk.

“So, what are your plans?” the father asked the young man.

“I am a biblical scholar,” he replied.

“A biblical scholar, hmmm?” the father said. “Admirable, but what will you do to provide a nice house for my daughter to live in?”

“I will study,” the young man replied, “and God will provide for us.”

“And how will you buy her a beautiful engagement ring, such as she deserves?” asked the father.

“I will concentrate on my studies,” the young man replied, “God will provide for us.”

“And children?” asked the father. “How will you support children?”

“Don’t worry, sir, God will provide,” replied the fiancé.

The conversation proceeded like this … and each time the father questioned, the young idealist insisted that God would provide.

Later, the mother asked, “How did your talk go, honey?”

The father answered, “Another Democrat. He has no job, he has no plans and he thinks I’m God.”

You don’t want to pressure them too hard…
Just remember the Chernobyl meltdown was the result of a safety test gone awry!

  6. Anonymous says:

Our nuclear plants are all virtual antiques that need to be replaced by the modern and very much safer ones that have been developed over the decades.

But anti-nuclear activists and environmentalists won’t allow it, so we just have to try living with what we have now and hope for the best.

  7. Maranatha says:

Some of the fuel rods are far worse and contain plutonium. That happened at Fukushima and to this day is generating thousands of gallons of irradiated water and they have no place to put it and are desperately considering just leaking it into the Pacific ocean.

  8. Anonymous says:

President Trump has done nothing about the grid, the crumbling infrastructure or nuclear power plants as promised during his campaigning. He has the power to override environmentalists and others to make these things happen but is spending hundreds of millions on other crap and as of lately $4-5 billion on two new Air Force One planes.

  9. Beaumont says:

There are countless hours — nay, days — of discarded footage, in the dvd bargain bin. In the Walmart, off some no name highway, off some no name town, are the memory-holed but still risqué newsreals, test demos, and military news of yesteryear.

They portrayed evacuees as traitors to the country. The govt showed people, running for the hills, like proper cowards. There was nothing, in the nearby wilderness. They got hungry, bored, and returned to the charred, smoking, cindered ruins, out of embarrassment.

You were supposed to get conscripted, wash that fallout off your skin and clothes, and rebuild the cities for patriotism.

The govt also said it wouldn’t hurt the Bikini Islanders in public library discards.

So, is Galen Windsor pro or anti-establishment, when saying not to be scared?

“… a 3-inch hole in a concrete floor in part of the factory where an acid is used.”

Regardless of whether Galen Windsor is spurious propaganda, someone was incompetent with acid, and they have failed to repair the floor — even in preparation for the press to arrive.

The rumored, Lucis Trust wanted to consolidate all fissile materials, in order to intimidate the non-participating countries, into globalism, and these turnkey plants, staffed with Homer Simpson types, all seem to be falling apart at the exact same time.

The far fringe says that some kind of space fairing demigods will save the best behaved people, on their naughty-or-nice list. They would be angels, aliens, evolved humans — objects of worship, in some kind of cargo cult.

What is the actual danger, and are there literal means of mitigating that. You don’t seem to be able to make your mind, except to obligate the other people.

  10. Sean says:

There are wild dogs that run around the woods and swamps at Savannah River Plant, where they make enriched plutonium and other cute stuff. South Carolina. The dogs are caught when mature, and tested for how much radiation they have in them. Then, they spray paint a number on the dog, to keep track of them, and how long they live. The dogs weren’t intentionally placed there, they are just runaways or abandoned. Some of the guards at reactors have no ammo on them, but they have their guns. The ammo was taken away to prevent accidental discharges. It was also found they were unloading the magazines because the stuff was too heavy to carry during an eight hour shift. Some of them have never fired their guns in training. Some of them have worked for years, with no security clearance.

    • Beaumont says:

The dogs are interesting test subjects, as apex predators, which would accumulate the materials, from those lower in the foodchain.

The humans, who look like guards, but serve no ostensible purpose, are also possible test subjects.

  11. Look up the video of Galen Winsor licking uranium off his palm. Seems to me, this stuff isn’t as dangerous as we’ve been led to believe.
