US Prepares For War: Steps Taken To Put Nuclear Bombers on 24-Hour Alert Status

The United States Air Force is preparing to put nuclear-armed bombers back on 24-hour ready alert, a status not seen since the Cold War ended back in 1991. The Air Force is said to face this decision due to a changing geopolitical environment.

It isn’t just North Korea’s rapidly advancing nuclear arsenal that has the Air Force planning to “fire up” the long-dormant concrete pads at the ends of this base’s 11,000-foot runway.  Those pads are dubbed the “Christmas tree” for their angular markings and will probably soon once again find several B-52s parked on them, laden with nuclear weapons and ready to take off at a moment’s notice partly because of the heightened rhetoric between Washington and Pyongyang. But the military is also concerned about Russia’s increasingly potent and active armed forces, according to Defense One.

The long-range bomber can also unleash both nuclear and precision-guided conventional ordnance, but the military insists this is for preparations only. “This is yet one more step in ensuring that we’re prepared,” said General David Goldfein, Air Force chief of staff,  in an interview during his six-day tour of Barksdale and other U.S. Air Force bases that support the nuclear mission. “I look at it more as not planning for any specific event, but more for the reality of the global situation we find ourselves in and how we ensure we’re prepared going forward.”  Goldfein and other senior defense officials wanted it stressed to the public that the alert order had not been given just yet, but the preparations were already underway in anticipation that it will come.

Goldfein also noted that in a world where “we’ve got folks that are talking openly about [the] use of nuclear weapons,” it’s important to remain alert and think of new ways to be prepared.

That decision will eventually likely be made soon by General John Hyten, the commander of U.S. Strategic Command (or  STRATCOM, is in charge of the military’s nuclear forces or General Lori Robinson, the head of U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM, which is in charge of defending North America.)  Meanwhile, Goldfein, who is the Air Force’s top officer and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is asking his force to think about new and inventive ways that nuclear weapons could be used for deterrence, or even in combat.

“It’s no longer a bipolar world where it’s just us and the Soviet Union. We’ve got other players out there who have nuclear capability. It’s never been more important to make sure that we get this mission right,” Goldfein said.

Hate to say it but this is the right move. Being a nice guy and sending all the jobs to China and India didn’t work. Simple fact is this: we need to go through a whole world of hurt to get the work ethic and values back and that means knowing who you can trust and who you can’t. America had a high standard of living, the best, when it was militarily strong and bought American. It has been downhill since the 1980s.

We also need a new McCarthyism: a blood letting that cleans out the traitors hired by Obama in the federal government and ferrets out the Chinese spies. Just withhold their funds in the banking system and use that money to beef up the US military. Bush 1 wisely made the Saudis pay for the first Gulf War. We need to make China and the others pay for the global security system and stop free-loading.

This explains the increased recall for military pilots.

I do remember there were numerous military vets recalled just a few months before the first Gulf War.

Air Force could recall up to 1,000 retired pilots after Trump order

“The order, which Trump signed Friday, amends an emergency declaration signed by George W. Bush after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

Under current law, the Air Force is limited to recalling just 25 pilots. The order signed by Trump TEMPORARILY REMOVES THAT CAP FOR ALL BRANCHES OF THE MILITARY.”

A Pentagon spokesman, Navy Cmdr. Gary Ross, said in a statement that the Air Force is currently “short approximately 1,500 pilots of its requirements.”

“We anticipate that the Secretary of Defense will delegate the authority to the Secretary of the Air Force to recall up to 1,000 retired pilots for up to 3 years,” Ross said.

“The pilot supply shortage is a national level challenge that could have adverse effects on all aspects of both the government and commercial aviation sectors for years to come.”

War, what is it good for? Absolutely Nothing. N Korea has not attacked anyone in half a century. Iran has never attacked another country in over 200 years.

How many nations has the US invaded attacked and destroyed in the last 2 decades? Dozens. Who is the aggressor, and why? PROFIT!!!!!!!

20% of the entire US Annual Budget goes for Military and Veterans Benefits. What a friggin waste of wealth.

AND THE PENTAGON CAN’T ACCOUNT FOR 25% OF THEIR ANNUAL BUDGETS YEAR AFTER YEAR. LOST, GONE, MISSING, VANISHED, DISAPPEARED, STOLEN, THEFT, FRAUD & CORRUPTION.

Do you understand who the orchestrators of NAFTA, China Free Trade and the deregulating of the financial sector turing investments into a casino gamble were? Bill Clinton was the quarterback, Neo-conservatives like Bush 41 and 43 the managers, Wall Street the owners.

FT, sad but true. I also, although somewhat grudgingly, support the move. What are we supposed to do, just let Porky or whoever surprise us with something? why the hell don’t they do something about the 2 satellites Porky has orbiting over us every day. If those are EMP satellites they need to be taken out. that would eliminate ONE EMP threat.

    • Nexus321 says:

Somewhat detached from reality. What did you think was going to happen? The Chinese were to become the factory slaves of the US? They have existed as a civilisation for several thousand years. Nothing is coming ‘back’to the US and US policies alone have created the decline. Never has a country had and squander so much.

  2. GrandpaSpeaks says:

“But the preparations were already underway in anticipation that it will come”. It sounds so democratic when you put it that way.

  3. War Thog says:

I too was thinking about a massive move on our part to rid the county of all the communist students and ANTIFA goons, Muslim Brotherhood, corrupt politicians and so on. Our country needs a great cleansing. Way too many folks have become complacent and all too accepting of ideologies not becoming of American citizens.

    • Menzoberranzan says:

That is certainly an achievable goal with the right planning. We have the manpower and the tools already.

      • GrandpaSpeaks says:

People have seldom had a second chance to remake their country into what their Founders intended it to be. There is no unifying vision other than a Constitutional Republic. We should go in that direction instead of any other and try it at least once before throwing in the towel. If we have learned anything it is that compliance to Constitutional standards needs to be performed in real time. An office of Constitutional Compliance needs to be developed with real powers to ensure compliance by having a final say. Put guys like Trey Gowdy in charge. The PATRIOT Act wouldn’t even be considered. And make all alphabet agencies demonstrate Compliance to Constitutional standards in order to remain in existence. But alas, I fear it is not in us, but if it is, then a unifying vision is paramount for any chance at success. Absolute despotism, I believe, is the term our Founders used to describe our predicament. In the race between economic collapse and war can the Patriot come from behind and make a home stretch effort to win? I am having my doubts because our despotism may be a little too absolute.

  4. This concerns me. Barksdale is once again going to be a primary nuke target. I live 22 miles due east of the runway. If I wasn’t so old I would move to the ozark plateau.

    • Concerned-Citizen! says:

Oh my friend, you might as well bend over and kiss your own ass bye-bye seriously. I will still move but hey that is just my opinion on it. I am not willing to live 22 miles from a major blast radius. Well, you will feel no pain that is for sure, you will be vaporized literally sport.

    • rellik says:

      Bctruck,
I am a SAC trained Killer. I spent time at
Minot AFB fixing B52 avionics equipment
      in the early 1970s.
Those bases won’t be Targets. There will be
nothing there by the time any missiles
get there. I have seen B52s rolling down the
runway within 5 minutes of being alerted.
Significant numbers of support personnel will
      be moving out.
I was required to keep a “bug out bag”
ready to go at all times. There were
Cabanas full of tools, spares, and weapons
ready to roll out. We were expected to
be ready to go 15 minutes after being
      alerted.
As part of an operational readiness inspection
I had to initiate a squadron recall.
Most the guys made it to the squadron
      on time.
      Good luck.

      I’m certain our cities and
      infrastructure will be targeted.
These bases will probably be second
wave attacked as a Clean up action.
if there is such a thing.

    • Archivist says:

      Also Seymour-Johnson in Goldsboro, NC.

There’s still an unexploded atom bomb sunk deep into the ground there from an accident back in the 1960s.

With Seymour-Johnson, Fort Bragg, Camp Lejeune/New River, and Cherry Point (the largest marine airbase in the world), eastern NC might get hit hard someday.

      • rellik says:

I was working on an aircraft on the Alert pad one day in 1975.
as usual it was two man, two officer policy. Officers are armed.
The aircraft was fully loaded with AGM 69 SRAM nuclear weapons.
I finished my work and left the aircraft. As I got to the truck to return to my shop, I realized I had left my head phones aboard the B52. I tried to return to get them. The officers had checked the work I did and noted one or more AGM 69s had armed. That is BAD! Aircraft was surrounded by guys(Kids) with guns and I could not go aboard.
It is not supposed to happen and I was not working on Missile stuff. They had to bring in a Team from South Dakota to disarm the weapons as no one in North Dakota knew how to do it.
I never got my headsets back. Minot AFB did not blow up.
What were you doing when you were 19 years old?
Hopefully you weren’t in a jungle or working with Armageddon.

  5. watching and waiting says:

In 1991, after Gulf War I, many thought that we had entered a new era of world oneness, a world wide village .

    Wrong.

While we disarmed or downsized, Russia rearmed and China has stepped on the world stage and neither really likes us. Now we are back to where we were before and the possibility of a new arms race under this administration as we saw in the Reagan years.

  6. Concerned-Citizen! says:

Well I guess this should not come as a huge surprise folks. I have to agree, America has been on a major downward spiral the past 30 years or so and being weak and “nice” to those certain individuals out there was a HUGE mistake. Barry Hussein O’Banana did the US NO favors at all. We Definitely have to cleanse the Gov’t of the past 8 years of “clowns” brought in under the Muslim sleeper himself. The US needs to make major, major changes or it isn’t going to be pretty people. I truly believe we could wake up one morning and that is it…who only knows wake joys that could await us all.

  7. Sierra Dave says:

Anyone else picture Slim Pickens riding the bomb down, when they read the title of the article?

  8. Brian says:

The cold war saw a lot of military saber-rattling but the nuclear war never came. Reagan’s star wars defense was supposedly to protect America from any nuclear power other than the Soviet Union. It was taken as a given that the Russians would overwhelm the anti-missile system by sheer numbers.

How good are the North Koreans with delivering an ICBM on target? I have a feeling that their accuracy isn’t so good. If you’re counting on living in a remote location which is nowhere close to a military target to keep you safe, don’t! Some other way will probably be found to defuse things, hopefully.

“We are going to continue to harass & provoke other nations into a fight with us. Don’t matter who it is with either! It is good for business to force other nations into our “Ideologies” & “Western Values”. — [sarcasm OFF]

  11. aljamo says:

I see Russia as defending their own established interests and allies unlike the US trying to control every nation on Earth while stealing their resources to keep themselves wealthy. I’m positive the overwhelming populations of the world see the same. The US is the great Satan.

    • Old Sailor says:

Not to mention the fact that the Russian military is not very potent. More like impotent. Can they do a little damage? Sure. Can they do much more? Not without launching nukes. They don’t even have the money to do a proper overhaul of their one and only obsolete carrier, much less wage a major war. It’s all scare tactics to rob more from the taxpayer.

  14. AnneMarie says:

The Colonies fought against England for independence. Then Americans fought against themselves in the Civil War. Then they moved west and killed the Indians and Mexico. That is leaving a lot out; but the USA has been at war for 93% of its existence.

Your national anthem mentions rockets and bombs. War is in your national psyche.

Every President wants his own war. Everywhere you go you kill people; but it’s never your fault. You are a warmonger but skillfully make it seem as if other countries start your wars for you.
    Someone prove me wrong.

    • Genius says:

I have never killed anyone, but yes, you are right. I would never sign up to kill people for the benefit of the global elite. Now if you came after me personally or actually invaded my homeland then yes, yer a dead mo-fo. Don’t imply that everyone here agrees with the status quo.

    • rellik says:

      Hi Anne,
Describe to me in the history of
man where we were not at war?
      Tribal, racial, religious, kingdoms
      empires, or countries, et al.
It is not uniquely American psyche,
but it is the psyche of all mankind.
Only the strong survive. Evil exists.
The strong must help the weak and
      obliterate evil when we can.
