Discovery Of Cave On Moon Raises Hope For Lunar Human Habitation

Japan’s space agency said it has discovered an enormous cave beneath the lunar surface that could be turned into an exploration base for astronauts.  It appears to be the perfect spot for humans to colonize the moon.

The discovery, made by Japan’s Selenological and Engineering Explorer (Selene) probe, comes as several countries compete to follow the United States in sending manned missions to the moon. Using a radar sounder system that can examine underground structures, the orbiter initially found an opening 50 meters wide and 50 meters deep, prompting speculation that there could be a larger hollow. Scientists at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (Jaxa) confirmed the presence of the cave after examining the hole using radio waves.

According to The Guardian, the chasm appears to be structurally sound and its rocks may contain ice or water deposits that could be turned into fuel, according to data sent back by the orbiter, nicknamed Kaguya after the moon princess in a Japanese fairytale. Jaxa believes that the cave, located from a few dozen meters to 200 meters beneath an area of volcanic domes known as the Marius Hills on the moon’s near side, is a lava tube created during volcanic activity about 3.5 billion years ago.

The agency said the chamber could be used as a base for astronauts and their equipment because it would protect them from extreme temperatures. Lunar temperatures range from an average of 107 Celcius during the day to -153 Celcius at night, and radiation from the sun’s ultraviolet rays it extremely dangerous.

“We’ve known about these locations that were thought to be lava tubes … but their existence has not been confirmed until now,” said Junichi Haruyama, a senior researcher at Jaxa. Lava tubes “might be the best candidate sites for future lunar bases, because of their stable thermal conditions and potential to protect people and instruments from micrometeorites and cosmic ray radiation,” Haruyama said. “The same stable and protected environment that would benefit future human explorers also makes them an enticing target for scientific study. Careful examination of their interiors could provide unique insights concerning the evolutionary history of the moon.”

“We haven’t actually seen the inside of the cave itself so there are high hopes that exploring it will offer more details,” Haruyama said. China, Russia, India, and the United States have made successful unmanned moon landings, but the US is the only country to have put humans on the lunar surface.  But that could all change in the very near future, as nations look to build colonies for people on the moon.

Hopefully there’s gonna be some hot chicks with green skin and mini skirts just like on Star Trek!! 🙂

  2. TEST says:

Good story, but not as good as one of my two fav stories: Statue of Elvis Found on Mars http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/467570/Elvis-Presley-spotted-Mars.

The other one was “Survivors of Titanic Spotted” in an article a few years ago. They were all over 100 years old, and had survived by wearing furs and raccoon coats, drinking water from the iceberg, and spearing fish, seals, etc. Sure it was from the National Enquirer, but still more trustworthy than CNN, NY Slimes, etc.!

BTW, Mac, Celsius is spelled wrong in the article. I know, because I am the King of Typos myself!

I have a plan. We send the clintons, obamas, the soros, the rothchilds and rockefellers along with all the islamic savages and scum illegals. We stuff them in that cave with no way out and let them die. We all have a party and get drunk.

      Menz,
      I like your style!

      • Genius says:

Is that the same japan that sent a probe to the moon a few years back and said there was absolutely NO EVIDENCE that man had ever been there?

        • yourdaddy says:

The Moon is nothing like it has been portrayed by NASA. It isn’t 230,000 miles away, it doesn’t reflect the sun’s light, and it isn’t something that can be landed upon. It generates it own light (and does so in predictable phases), it is about 35 miles across and is only 3000 or so miles overhead (just like the Sun).
Take off the indoctrinated blinders that were installed on you at birth, and seek the truth…It WILL set you free.

  5. aljamo says:

But some of the NASA astronauts admitted that they have never been out of low Earth orbit. A few of them were cornered and asked to swear on a Bible that they had been to the moon, Armstrong included. They all refused to and became angry. So the supposed moon landings said to be filmed and directed by Stanly Kubrick on Earth are all fake? What about the picture of the Earth said to be half way to the moon that was shown to be manipulated in low Earth orbit and how it was done? I doubt man has been to the moon, not 100% but leaning that way.

  6. Travis says:

    Dammit you found me.

    Moving to Pluto.

  7. Sarge the Annihilator says:

so they better hurry up and ban guns on the moon

  8. lolzngiggles says:

There definitely seem to be an abundance of “space” news recently, I feel as though NASA’s narrative is falling through an hour-glass

  9. Wile e. Coyote says:

What a waste of time and money. Name one thing this space program bullshit has brought us other than tang?

  10. Brian says:

Perfect bugout location if I only had a rocket ship!

  11. Asshat says:

Gotta get to the moon first.

  12. “…it would protect them from extreme temperatures…and radiation from the sun’s ultraviolet rays (is) extremely dangerous.”

No worries. Tell the Japanese to call NASA.

That was all ironed out in the sixties and seventies when the US sent all those men to the moon.

    Or did they?

  13. Philosopher Deplorabilis says:

Sounds like using the natural environment to our best advantage! Brilliant!

    Make it so!

  14. Jimmy says:

We never went to the moon . One of many of our governments lies.

  15. Lisa Blockowicz says:

We never went to the moon.

  16. We can’t even colonize inhospitable habitats on this planet, why does anyone think we can do it at enormous cost/energy somewhere off planet? As others have stated: what a colossal waste of time/energy/resources/etc..

  17. Brian says:

How does a cave come to exist when there is no weather or atmosphere? Craters yes but not caves.

  18. grandee says:

…the perfect spot for humans to colonize the moon.

    and do what??

  19. george says:

Japanese toilet paper futures are bullish !
