clint-heidi-smithClint Smith served two tours in Vietnam, worked as a police officer, was a member of SWAT, directed training at leading gun manufacturing firms, is an instructor of advanced weapons and tactics, and now runs Thunder Ranch, a facility in Oregon designed specifically for avid gun shooters. If you want to learn how to fire a gun and what to do in life and death situations Mr. Smith is the person you’d want as an instructor. (He’s pictured next to his wife to the left, along with Mrs. Smith’s 338 Laupa)

Over the years he’s has passed on scores of insights and words of wisdom, some via numerous instructional videos. Here are some of his key thoughts on guns, gun ownership, and life in general assembled from across the web:

Don’t forget, incoming fire has the right of way.

If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That’s ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid about.

Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he’s gonna have to beat me to death with it, cause it’s going to be empty.

If you’re not shootin’, you should be loadin’. If you’re not loadin, you should be movin’, if you’re not movin’, someone’s gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick.

The only purpose of fighting is to Win!

Shoot what’s available, as long as it’s available, until something else becomes available.

When you reload in low light encounters, don’t put your flashlight in your back pocket… If you light yourself up, you’ll look like an angel or the tooth fairy…and you’re gonna be one of ’em pretty soon.

The handgun would not be my choice of weapon if I knew I was going to a fight I’d choose a rifle, a shotgun, an RPG or an atomic bomb instead.

Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghillie suit.

    Don’t shoot fast, shoot good.

You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it.

You cannot save the planet.. You may be able to save yourself and your family.

There is no possible victory in defense.

The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.

The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. ‘Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?’ ‘No ma’am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.’

Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it!

You can say ‘stop’ or ‘alto’ or use any other word you think will work but I’ve found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much the universal language.

      1. Good stuff…

        • The further away you are from an attacker, human or animal, the less chance you will be seriously injuried or killed. A firearm gives you that luxary.

These anti-gunners value the safety of the criminal because they are suppose to have rights to safety. This type of pure garbage is a paradox to the way a criminal upon prosecution loses those rights granted to another person. To give a criminal rights over the innocent trying to stay alive and well is criminal. The piers moron worshippers of the world show their utter hatred of justice for the victims everytime they open their mouths.

Let’s face it, a gun is a tool for safety. The same type of tools that puts dead bolt locks to safeguard a home. The same type of tools that put up alarms in a home. ALL are there to protect you and your family from the criminal. A tool for life and safety is all a firearm is.

          • BI, AMEN to your comments as always.

            • When trouble starts give me a gun, any gun.

Screaming for help or using my finger nails

comes in a very distant second, and there is

              no second place winner.

              • The best gun for self defense or a SHTF is the one you HAVE.

                • Agree with you Billy and the rest of the comments. I’d like to add with BI, most criminals aren’t prepared to be on the defensive. Remember that when you see their pants become wet. Clint is right when he says ‘there is no victory in defense’, be ready to pull the trigger on the perp.

                • Pay close attention to #16. lol

                • More facts making the liberal oligarch look stupid:

In a study done by James Alan Fox, author and criminology professor at Northeastern University, he addressed 10 myths perpetrated by the press. Among them are:

                  — Mass shootings are on the rise. He used FBI statistics and found they have long averaged in the 20s per year, rarely going over 25.

                  — Video games play a role. The study found no link between video games and expanded violence, and blamed the media and lawmakers for using the entertainment industry as a “convenient scapegoat.”

                  — Profiling will help catch killers before they act. The study found that most are white and about 30 years old, characteristics that “are fairly prevalent in the general society.”

                  — Expanded background checks will stop killers from getting guns. The study cites a study from former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns that in 93 recent mass shootings, the gun buyers didn’t have a criminal or mental health record. “People cannot be denied their Second Amendment rights just because they look strange or act in an odd manner,” wrote Fox and DeLateur.

                  — An assault weapons ban would work. They found that the typical weapon used is a pistol, not an “assault weapon” like the semi-automatic AR-15 rifle. Assault weapons were used in 24.6 percent of mass shootings, handguns in 47.9 percent. And limiting the size of magazines weapons can carry wouldn’t help, they said, because any ban would impact new sales and “there is an ample supply of large capacity magazines already in circulation.”

With having a gun in mind I would like to recommend one of hill people gears chest packs.
Granted you will get funny looks from people when you walk around but if you prep for real that shouldn’t matter.

The reason is it offers you the ability to truly have a practical every day carry kit that will fill the role of a get home bag as well. Tourniquet, 30 round mag, a small breaching tool, food in addition to traditional edc items can be put inside along with a small rifle plate. Plus I would much rather have a full size pistol than a sub compact any day.

                  CATI

              • People like you, and the man about whom the article was written, make me feel comfortable and secure. The MSM message of giving up immediately and turning in all of your weapons is depressing and dangerous. All of us should know how to protect ourselves and our families, and there is no excuse for not learning how to do this. Twenty years ago, I would have suggested contacting your local law enforcement for ideas, but not now. Find someone you trust who knows how to defend himself and learn from him, or take a course, if necessary.

          • I’m with you on this.

I have repeatedly been called “paranoid” and even “a murderer in waiting” because of my views on concealed carry. Let’s face it, the bulk of the Canadian public, and of gun owners for that matter, have been brainwashed into thinking that if guns are allowed at all it is for sporting purposes only and handguns, semis and “military style assault weapons” should be limited to law enforcement and the military.

But when dealing with those types, I ask them if they have a spare tire, a first aid kit and fire extinguishers. Every time, I get a resounding yes. To that, my stock answer has always been the following question: “So, are you telling me you are planning to slash your tires, hurt someone or set fire to your house?” Funny, their whole argument against defensive carry tends to collapse at that point but still they argue that “the police” will always be there to protect my family and I.

And there are the endless anti-gunner arguments about “missing and shooting my kid in the other room” or ” the criminal is a better scrapper than me and will just take the gun from me and use it”. Please. First, never take a shot you can’t make and I won’t be firing a rifle, 00 Buck or slugs inside the house and the 3 full mags I keep in my quick access safe are loaded with Gold Dots (hard as Hell to find over here, too) so they will stay inside the aggressor.

As for taking the gun from me, I always first explain that at 200+ pounds (I can afford to shed a few) and knowing how to handle myself overpowering me, especially with a gun in my hands, would be an interesting proposition; I also have said anti-gun moron join me for a demonstration, where I have him try to take a roughly 1911-sized object from my hands before I can point it at him and shout “bang”, and once I have “killed” the idiot a few times, I have said idiot hold the item while I try to disarm him. Funny enough, my point about getting disarmed gets made right then and there too.

            • @ Canadian Vet. Another HUGE issue about the people staying armed is tyranny prevention. What these anti-gunner fools don’t get is that self defense and firearms are strength. The opposite of strength is enslavement. This is why every single dictatorship has at least tried to disarm the citizens as much as possible.

              • Canadian Vet: I find Canada and it’s people interesting and very likeable for the most part but in general they have an identity problem. One of your PM’s rightly said that Canada has too much geography and too little history. In many ways Canada is very much like the U.S. but the vast majority have been inflicted with a European form of what I’d call “pussification”. In a word, they’ve handed most of their rights, along with their gonads, over to the government. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve got plenty of our own, they’re called liberals, and Canada has real men and women too who don’t expect the government to do everything for them, just like we have. But Canada seems to have a much higher percentage sissies than we do. What it comes down to is that the U.S. has a lot of history and it was often forged with firearms for both good and bad, but it’s part of our national psyche and it’s not going to go away anytime soon. Our very founding was with the gun and we used it to defeat the largest military power in the world. We didn’t just earn our freedom, we took it, and that’s what makes us different from Canadians, or anyone else for that matter! Perhaps you and the residents of western Canada will get feed up some day and leave like some of us should, and may, from our ineffectual leaders in the east. Good luck!

                • Canadian Vet, got post and thanks for the wit with libs.

                • Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he’s too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

Wow, good advice. It just happened. And it pretty much seems that simple.

                • “Gregory8” you are so right and more you didn’t say: In fact, if you have read our Constitution, we NEVER got our Freedom or any other rights properly.

This country (Canada) is still, in effect, a COLONY with a Prime Minister, who doesn’t know whether to KISS the Hand of the Queen,FIRST or Bend over for Israel first

                • Maybe the fear of hungry ARMED Americans going up to Canada after a global financial collapse. Will make some Canadians arm themselves.

A Hockey stick isn’t much defense versus a gun. 🙂

            • Canadian Vet,
Once again your contribution to this forum is appreciated by me,
Those that criticize you do so for their own selfish agenda.
              Thanks Again
              —- Miss Dee Dee

              • Gregory8 presents us all with clear discourse and cogent arguments. While we I do not agree with all of his points, he is respectful while doing so and doesn’t beat me, and incidentally everyone here, on the head with American supremacism like a number of other regulars do.

In fact, Gregory8 and I tend to be on the exact same page.

And he is right. Canadians in general have a fairly vague grasp on the concepts of natural rights and unalienable freedoms. We have had a lot of leftist governments and since the Trudeau years personal freedoms and responsibilities have been going steadily downhill until Harper was elected. However, there are those of us who recognize that rights are not given by governments and Constitutions and Bills and Charters. Anyone who thinks their rights are derived from a a piece of paper or a government edict are actually then being given a privilege that can be revoked at any time on a whim. Rights, all rights, are God-given and it is mere men who seek to define and restrict them. As an example, gun rights are a direct subset of the rights to life and safety for one and theirs.

In fact, I believe that any document that enumerates and codifies rights is an attempt by those in power to appropriate those rights and therefore to restrict them as they see fit. It is in human nature to want to be in control, after all, and the higher up the food chain one goes the more control they will want to assert. Even if it means attacking the rights of those they view as beneath them.

          • For the piss moron gang, the “poor underprivileged” criminal is their victim’s victim right up until the apologists themselves (or their families) are the victim. I never hear that gang babbling about finding the underlying cause of a thug’s behavior then.

When it comes to the disarming of Americans, the slow chipping away toward that end works both for and against TPTB. As time goes on and more atrocities like the beating death of the guy in L.A. occur, more people are awakened. Nothing is happening to sway more people to the gun grabbers’ side (in spite of all their efforts) I think most of our kids see right through their attempts at indoctrination.

            • Billy Idol, excellent points. I have always said let the apologists suffer a home invasion from the same thugs they always stand up for, let some of their loved ones get raped and/or killed, and let’s see what they say about the experience. Let’s see what kind og song they sing afterwards. I will still engage in acts of self-defense regardless of what anyone’s laws say. MOLON LABE braveheart

            • Billy Idol,

Five years ago a distinguished journalist, member in good standing of the elitist chattering class, was walking down the street in DC. He was strolling around his neighborhood, one of the yuppish enclaves near Georgetown and American Universities. A verrry safe area. As he was to discover, if one is incapable of defending oneself there is no such thing as a “safe area.”

An aggressor, half his age and much more physical, attacked him. Then and now, he was legally enjoined from carrying. He was beaten down, hit his head, and died.

If he had been allowed to carry it might have been his aggressor loaded into the ambulance rather than him. At least he would have had a chance to defend himself.

Did the local chattering class, leading with the mighty Washington Compost, learn anything from their friend and colleague’s violent death? Sadly, no.

            • A liberal gun grabber is someone that hasn’t been raped/mugged yet.

              • Or needing protection.

          • @Bi
We had a comunity watch meeting here a year or so ago, after a rash of break ins
The cop actually told us we needed to try and run away from our home if someone broke in when we were home and said it was not advisable to shoot them!
I got into a heated argument with the cop over this, tried to get him to explain why i could not defend my home and family in our own home, why WE had to leave? He really didnt like it when i started giving him response times to recent calls, all in the 15-30 minute range,,,
Had a few “Liberal” comunity members saying they thought it best to offer no resistence!
I simply told the cop i had no intention of running from my own home and wasnt sure i would even bother calling the police at all if i did ventilate someone in my house.
He really didnt like that one,,,
            Shoot, shovel,, shut up!

            • @ Kulafarmer. Hawaii has beautiful scenary and excellent growing of everything, BUT the anti-self defense laws there are frightening. Hawaii is one of the 8 states that prohibit stun devices. This is a non-lethal device that can save someone against an attacking animal, like a pit bull with some serious mental quirks. NO ONE should ever have to run away from their own home.

I would ask mr. pro protect the poor criminal flatfoot just where are you suppose to run to so the criminal is protected. I would ask someone like this how they would react if some pedophile pervert freak was going to rape and infect their son or daughter with their AIDS or other deadly disease if you should shoot and stop your child from receiving a death sentence of sickness, or just let the police handle the situation minutes later after your child has been attacked. Got to make sure all people on your property are kept safe type of mentality is pro criminal, simply as that.

              • Kula, that phrase’thought it best to offer no resistence!’ is what tptb want us to get use to. If we become conditioned to offer no resistance for a break in, the populace won’t put up any resistance when tptb make their movie on us all. They (tptb) want as easy a take over as possible. No weapons, no resistance!

                • This hits the nail on the head, and I hope people think about this for a minute, and don’t forget it. Get armed and get ammo, NOW.

            • The last thing I would want to do is call the cops. Even after I shot someone. If I can avoid calling the authorities I certainly wouldnt let them know anything. I simply don’t trust the law enforcement and judicial system. Where I used to live we had a state police convicted of drugs. we had the prosecueter mail someone a poison snake & then show up in federal court high on cocaine. the chief of police wife was the secretary for the municipal judge & was dealing drugs from his office. And that is just the tip. Those are just the ones caught & convictied. There are a lot of unsolved murders and so called sucicides there also. The number one reason a citizen should have firearms is to have the means to keep the government (local of federal) in check. I carry a handgun just in case. If I where expecting trouble I would change my plans to try to avoid it. If trouble where unavoidable I would prefer a rifle or 12 guage loaded with buck shot.

              • I like a staggered 12 load of buckshot 00 or #4 then a slug, buck slug so on. If they are out of buck range, shoot twice.

            • Kulafarmer, kudos to you for standing up to the morons, especially to the moron who thinks of himself as a cop. I would’ve said the same things regardless of how they react. whatever someone else thinks of me is their problem, not mine. MOLON LABE braveheart

          • Gun Control!
Hold it in both hands & squeeze the trigger. Don’t pull! Squeeze!

        • How about: “You may be able to break into my house, but you will never leave alive.”

          • “You may be able to break into my house, but you will never leave….”
Hey this sounds like a great verse for a remake of Hotel Kalifornia …..LOL
            Standing by in
            Montgomery County Texas

        • Placing the blame on a gun for a killing is the same as placing blame on a fork for being fat! (I always liked that one!)

      2. Life is short. Just make sure theirs is shorter than yours….

        • Ugly, their life WILL be cut short if they come to my place with bad intentions. MOLON LABE braveheart

          • braveheart.

No doubt. But those days may be sooner than we know. Good luck….

            • If your state has lousy gun carry laws such as CA, OR TENN, NY ETC carry a small conceiled weapon such as a 38 snubnose hammerless, or a 380 semi and just dont pull it until you need it. You will not get caught unless you get frisked or shoot someone. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

              • Don’t be judged by anyone, A. Why wait around?

Just get out of there pronto after doing your

civic duty, ala Charles Bronson in Death Wish.

              • A, you make some good points, but TN DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME KIND OF GUN LAWS AS CA OR NY. DON’T PUT MY HOME STATE IN THAT CATEGORY BECAUSE I KNOW BETTER. DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU MAKE A STATEMENT LIKE THAT. YOU DIDN’T DO YOUR HOMEWORK WELL ENOUGH THIS TIME. MOLON LABE braveheart

                • They should have said Hawaii, is a shall issue state but they dont issue CC permits unless you are a cop

                • Brave I did research it. Your carry laws are the same as Ca. Tenn residents cannot open or conceil carry Without a permit. (same as Ca) Tenn. when transporting a weapon in a car, the gun must be unloaded with the ammo stored seperatly in Open Sight. (this will get you shot in Ca for sure but is the same for Ca). The difference between Ca and Tenn is the purchasing and registration laws, NOT THE CONC/OPEN CARRY LAWS. Besides who would be dumb enough to buy a gun for self defence/offence and have it registered anyways. So DO YOUR FUCKING HOMEWORK. I put those in caps because I know you like them. Take Care, and carry anyway.

                  • BRAVEHEART. Im only going to do this one time for you because I want you to be aware and not get caught. WIKIPEDIA. TENN GUN LAWS. From now on you have to look things up for yourself. Unless you need a part for Bertha, then I could make time.

                  • I have lived here 46 years, and carry concealed every day, you sir are mistaken Ten. Laws are much like the rest of the south. We also have a guns in trunks law which allows us to keep weapons at work in our vehicles loaded and ready!

                  • @A:

                    Good Day

In cali, we can’t open carry PERIOD.

Firearms must be in a locked container for transportation.

No restrictions on transportation of ammo.

How do I know this? I live here on the worst coast. I shoot regularly.

                    That’s right people, I am a victim by design. Or….am I?

                    …..be safe….stay the course……BA.

                • @Braveheart

I can second that one. TN honors my Indiana conceal carry. Thats one reason me and the wife choose to go on vacation there.

                • @Braveheart

I can second that one. TN honors my Indiana conceal carry. Thats one reason me and the wife choose to go on vacation there.

                  • Only people without a permit must put there weapon in plain site. Conceal carry holders can be locked and loaded bud.

Vehicle Transportation[edit]Under Tennessee law, a handgun, shotgun, or rifle transported by a non-licensed person in a vehicle in Tennessee must be unloaded and in plain view or secured in commercial gun cases (T.C.A. § 39-17-1308(a)(1)[1]). Glove compartment or console box carry is not permitted, and ammunition must be carried separately from the handgun, rifle, or shotgun.[1] Rifles and shotguns carried in a vehicle must remain unloaded and ammunition must be kept separate (“not in the immediate vicinity”) of any firearm unless the vehicle operator has a recognized carry permit.[1]

Tennessee allows permittees to possess loaded handguns in vehicles (“possession with the intent to go armed”). Permittees are also allowed to possess rifles and shotguns with magazine loaded in vehicles as long as the chamber is unloaded.

Tennessee’s Safe Commute Law (T.C.A. § 39-17-1313[1]) allows permittees to store their loaded firearms securely in their vehicle on a third party’s private property despite any “no firearms” posted signs (it will no longer be considered a crime). The Safe Commute Law does not, however, preempt any employer policy relating to a prohibition against employees carrying firearms on the employer’s property.

                  • Exactly BUD, same as CA. which is my point. The conceal rules are the same, exept in Ca they shoot first then ask if you had a permit.

              • Killingtime
I live in Tn. And I carry my glock everywhere I go….lousy laws?? I have never had problems anywhere in my state or the entire south for that matter…just sayin

                • I carry everywhere I go as well, just never show it off and no one knows. And again, shoot..scoot.. you DON’T want to be armed and insight of any police because it is way obvious by now the cops are itching to put holes in people. It has become a shoot first policy.

                • @ Killingtime. Some states have similar laws, but the LEO enforce them differently. CA is a “shoot first, go home safe” enforcement. and dont leave a dog alive.

              • check out the daily sheeple about the guy that got attacked by the cops in maryland b/c he had a permit in florida. they knew he ahs a cpl in fl and was trying ahrd to bust him for his weapon in maryland.. see what the permit gets a guy?

                • 02. The LEO that rammed a truck (different color/make) and fired 3 shots through the driver window at a short white guy (Dormer was tall, black and bald)in CA was aquitted of criminal wrong doing yesterday. Good thing his shots missed. I read also that the 2 women that were shot up in the same manhunt for Dormer settled $$$ out of court. The LEO fired 48 rounds into the back of thier truck while they were delivering newspapers. Their truck was also a different make and color and 2 hispanic females dont make 1 large black male.

            • Ugly, I have that same feeling; between now and summer. good luck.

          • Braveheart. You should Realy invest in a shotgun speedloader for Bertha (Im assuming 12 guage pump) they are about 60$. Then practice with it until you can speed load in the dark. Might save your ass someday.

            • A, thanks for the tip. Yes, bertha is a pump, Stevens Model 320, made by Savage Arms.

            • never trust a semi-auto with your LIFE! i recently picked up another 1100 remington and went out to shoot it, along with my other one…boy was i surprised to find that NEITHER ONE would cycle the rounds i was using(new. trap loads)! i knew right there i would never rely on one for my home defense…it’s always been the reliable 870 for me, and i just illustrated to myself why….an 870 will ALWAYS fire and cycle! a pump is the only way to go for home defense. and i like any old bird shot…if i shoot you from 10 yards, yer going DOWN…if i want to let you get 50 yards away before i shoot you, i WILL hit you, and i know you won’t want to come back any time SOON!

              • Too light a shell to cycle action. I like older model 12 Winchester, they are fast and hold seven shells. There is a trick to them I would not mention here.

              • I’ve got an old pump gun I’ve had since I was 14 (55 now). Recently tried to run some cheap low brass rounds through it. Jammed every time after firing. Bottom line is know what your gun likes and stick to it.

                • shoulda got an 870…bought my ducks unlimited in 1973 and shot a BOATLOAD of ducks(and a lot of other meat) with it….and it still eats anything i put through it.

      3. Clint has an aboundance of wisdom in his sayings. I really like the one about the old man because that fits me. I’m to old to piss around try to out run and gun you, I’m just going to kill you. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I don’t fight to lose or break even and I do not fight fair. This old man ain’t afraid of dieing its the living I’ll miss.

        • Northern Reb, Clint Smith is one of the very best in the business and has his reputation but his course costs thousands of dollars to attend. That’s more than the average joe can afford. I’m not saying it’s not worth the money, that it’s for rich people.

          • Rich have guards–why would they need this training??

      4. DONT GET SO CAUGHT UP IN THIS GUN CRAP THAT YOU FORGET TO AVOID TROUBLOE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

        • COMRADE Eisen, who yanked on your chain?

          • Your daughter

            • Eisen, you shut your face about my daughter.

              • aw, eisencunt’s just pissed at the world about his son. at the age of 14 he was put in charge of inseminating the pigs on eisencunt’s pig farm….and the poor kid was 17 before he realized there was a MACHINE that would do it FOR him. i DID think he made a good point the ONE time though….yeah, just the ONE TIME, and it was a LOOONG time ago……now what WAS that ….?

        • Ah… Capsman is back.

Hey, I make it a point to avoid Troubloe whenever I see him. The dude can talk your ear off.

        • Eisen.

That is good advice. Folks should look and live in peaceful manners. But some folks cannot rest in peace. They must destroy others for their rest….

          • A gunfight avoided is a gunfight won!

          • Ugly, eisen is a retarded communist POS. He doesn’t know what manners are.

        • Wow one of the first times I’ve agreed with Eisen. Is he getting older and wiser? Ikm going with the theory that someone stole his username (and his caplock key).

        • with replies like that…you are looking for trouble!

        • COMRADE Eisen, follow your own advice and go away. Plus, the word is ‘trouble’, T-R-O-U-B-L-E, NOT ‘troubloe’.

        • @eisendabackomyhead:

          long time dude….paroled or pardoned?

The last thing I will be looking for is trouble. Like I said I’m old enough to know how to stay out of trouble.
I’m not running and gunning. If there is a peaceful way around a problem I’ll take it. I have said this before DON’T PISS ON MY SHOES AND TELL ME IT IS RAINING. That when the real SHTF will happen. Thats not a threat it is a promise!;-)

      5. I’d carry a gun even if a cop only weighed six pounds. They’re too unreliable. Always going off on dogs and people that don’t need killin’, or firing a full magazine to get two hits on the target, and eleven on the bystanders.

        • Coach,

Excellent point. Allow me to expand on it. As a manager, I frequently delegate tasks. One delegates a task to a competent individual.

Sadly people often abdicate their responsibilities. Abdicate to incompetent individuals: police, school teachers, doctors, clergy, the list goes on.

A competent prepper first masters his own self self reliance. Only then are we ready to delegate to the competent and worthy.

And that’s all I have to say about that. Good article Mac. Thanks.

        • Right, OC. I’m tired of hearing about “trained law enforcement professionals”. Most cops are complete idiots around guns. Obviously, these NCIS records ARE retained and a database exists.

          • Billy Idol, that’s an excellent point. My relatives in GA can outperform any cop on a range because they grew up around guns and learned how to shoot at the earliest possible age, every one of them. Even their kids are better shots than a lot of cops out here.

        • SHOOT FIRST, and ask question, NEVER!. i know i’ve repeated that phrase almost as many times as i repeated the 8th grade, but we need to make sure EVERYONE knows what these damn BAD cops are up to, like the 2 that just got away with MURDER in KALI.

        • Once again,.gov and law enforcement close ranks to defend each other.

Quote from LEO defense lawyer “They were doing what they were trained to do.”

If law enforcement won’t police it’s own for actions like this, there is bound to be some public vengeance meted out to all uniforms when the SHTF.

          • Retired cop here. It didn’t use to be that way. Was a time we took pride in doing the job right. We The People. NOT, We The Govt.

Clint is in Lakeview Oregon. Has a awesome set up. My associates and me, are retired and long range shooters. We have often talked about going to some of Clint’s classes. We’ve concluded that for that kind of money we can shoot a whole lot of bullets. Were northwest of him in Klamath Falls, and have long range steel targets starting at 500y farthest is 1350 yards.

There is a real need for Clint and his fellow trainers. If your new to the discipline, a great instructor can save you a lot of time, money and frustration.

            DW

            • Would love to get real training,,, But like you said, for that kinda money you can shoot through a whole lot of ammo,,,
Hope alls well over there in K falls,,, went to OIT years ago for a few semesters,, have always wanted to go back and see what the economy etc is like over there, lots of folks think the PNW is too wet, I sorta like the idea of water from the sky, especially when we rely so heavily on water for everything…

      7. THANK GOD FOR DEAD SOLDIERS

        • Really idiot?? What sort of statement is that!!! I’ve known quite a few good soldiers in my time, who ended up being carried slow time, laid out in a flag draped coffin to their final rest. THANK GOD FOR DEAD SOLDIERS??????!!!!!!! I thank god you didn’t say that in front of me!!! I’d rip you a new arse hole and present you with a friggin curb side Joker smile you ignorant Garden Gnome. You Obviously haven’t seen a ramp ceremony have you? Or help put a friend in a body bag so he can start his return journey home!!!! Or clean out the back of a vehicle where a soldier with two little girls back home bleed out!
Eisenkrat ….. You better have Eisen the back of your head with that attitude. Homo

          • Cede, Eisen has an arse hole you could drive a freight train through!

        • you’re a real sweetheart eisen. Why do you hate everybody? Maybe you ought to look in the mirror, that image needs major improvement along with your attitude!

        • Eisen, I would thank god for a dead commie POS like you. to everyone else, I don’t normally make statements like this, but in eisen’s case I’ll make an exception.

          • eisencunt has a barbara boxer bumper sticker on his wheelchair. i don’t know WHY…nobody’s gonna see it in yer mommie’s basement.

        • Huh?

      9. Was sent this:

A 5 gallon metal bucket (paint burned off)
        3 wooden stakes
        3 whole chickens
        Butter (spray butter)
        Hickory chips (2 cups/2 handfuls)
Seasoning of choice; we use garlic and seasoned pepper (season to liking)
        Tin foil (15×15)
8 lb. Bag of matchlight charcoal
        Cotton string (about 3-4 ft.)

Make 3 stakes and drive them into ground after laying foil down [stakes placed close enough together that you can fit the three chickens on and still fit bucket over them]
Place seasoned chickens breast out on stakes and tie string around them tightly so when cooked, nothing falls off
Once chickens are placed, spray a lot of butter all around the chickens and season more
        Your almost done!
Place hickory chips around and underneath the chickens
Put bucket over chickens and pour all the charcoal around the bucket
        Light it up!
The chickens should cook for at least 3-3 1/2 hours

        How about a joke?

Several men are in the locker room of a country club. A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

        MAN: “Hello”

WOMAN: “Hi Honey, it’s me. Are you at the club?”

        MAN: “Yes.”

WOMAN: “I’m at the Mall and found this beautiful leather coat. It’s only $2,000; is it OK if I buy it?”

MAN: “Sure, go ahead if you like it that much.”

WOMAN:”I also stopped by our Lexus dealership and saw the new models. I saw one I really liked.”

        MAN: “How much?”

        WOMAN: “$90,000.” ;

MAN: “OK, but for that price,,, I want it with all the options.”

WOMAN:”Great! Oh, and one more thing… I was just talking to Jane and found out that the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They’re asking $980,000 for it.”

MAN: “Well, then go ahead and make an offer of $950,000. They’ll probably take it. If not, we can go the extra few thousand if it’s what you really want.”

WOMAN: “OK. I’ll see you later! I love you so much!”

MAN: “Bye! I love you, too.”

The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths wide open.

He turns and asks, “Anyone know whose phone this is…………?”

The only thing .gov can protect is itself. Everything else is window dressing for the clueless and those who are brainwashed to “follow orders”…including the illegal orders that violate my natural rights.

      15. Don’t die for your country, make the other guy die for his.

      16. Carry laws are a registry of future resistors, get a permit and become a target. All your vehicle tags will be identified as having a weapon. I wouldn’t put my wife and kids in that danger.

        • Right on Sdog, learn the laws and then do a work around. There is always a hole in the law someplace and if it is a felony in your state to get caught with an unregistered/licensed weapon, move.

        • It’s not like they “put you on a list” when you give them all your info… oh wait… yes it is.

          • I know for a fact,by a incident a few years back, if you bought a gun and it is registered, they know you own it as soon as they run your DL. Make Model and serial Number. For at least the last 15-20 years.

            • Yea and not only that but since NSA has recorded all electronic traffic, all background checks for new weapons are recorded for posterity as well. The law here says those records are to be destroyed after some time but I think Mr. Snowden showed us different. It was BS all along.

These creatures know all, every weapon “legally” purchased. The pecking order (or pick off order) will be FFL / class three / CCW / the rest of the rabble. Unless all you have ever bought have been third party off the record weapons, you are a threat to be eliminated. They’ll find you soon enough…

I think firearms will be useless against what they will field against us anyway. Sonic, infrared, diseases, armed drones, who knows what else. So many things we were taxed for (by the barrel of a gun no less) and funded will be used to suppress the resistent population. How does that sit with ya?

Better hope some military elements remember their oath, otherwise it will be a complete bloodbath. I want to at least bloody their f’ing noses dammit!

        • Be informed,

Not good. The article says this new ‘secret technology’ has been around since 2008.

“NSA has increasingly made use of a secret technology that enables it to enter and ALTER DATA IN COMPUTERS EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET, according to N.S.A. documents, computer experts and American officials.”

It can also “create a digital highway for launching cyberattacks.”

We can assume that other countries have this or similar technology also. So many people are depend on the grid for everything. This is another reminder to try to be independent of the grid.

        Thanks for a great list.

      24. Pretty much says it all, no need to elaborate or bloviate!!

      25. @ braveheart. I was thinking about your old Bertha and shotguns. There can be massive damage done with slugs, and no one is getting up after being hit with one. Slugs typically are going at around 1600 feet per second and the Sabot slugs can reach over 2000 feet per second. You look at the shear size of a slug in even a 20 gauge and it is really a .50 caliber. You get into the 12 gauge and you are talking almost .70 caliber size. The 10 gauge is an absolute monster. Many people hunt big game with slugs and you could see how it could bring down just about anything. This person off of Australian hunts 16 foot+ Great White Sharks with slugs. It costs about the same as buck shot, and should be considered against an attacker using a vechicle or something against you. Slugs have tremendous stopping power, especially the ones with the higher kinetic energy, velocity, behind them.

        • Want a good system for cheap? Buy a pardner pump shot gun in 12 gauge and add an extension to the magazine. I have a 10 round shotgun for about 225 bux and it is an exact replica of the 870 express. I have the 870 slug gun, moved to bird country and found it cheaper to buy a complete pardner pump with a 22 inch barrel then to buy another barrel for the 870.. go figure.

          • 28 inch barrel.. sorry

        • Im partial to shooting home loaded nickel plated 00buck out of my Mossy 930 Miculik comp special with a Trulock extra full choke, at 50 yds it will obliterate a 12″ target. • BI, thanks for the tip. I will look for the sabot slugs.

        • Check out JWRs Survivalbog, they have a good read on soap, im thinking stocking up on the ingredients and a few hundred pounds of soap base for barter after SHTF,,,

          • Kula–my laundry detergent is Borax, Arm & Hammer washing soap, grated Zote from Kmart.

Lasts forever, no suds, and cheap.

            • JayJay I normally wash my work clothes with cold water. I was thinking about using what you described, but I’ve read that you need to use warm/hot water lest your clothes turn dingy. Any advice?

              • PO’d patriot,

I use the homemade laundry detergent also. (The recipe I use also includes baking soda and Purex crystals.) The soap dissolves fine, even in cold water. This is a low sudsing formula, but get the clothes clean!

I have washed clothes in cold water. The clothes came out fine.

*If you have a HE washer, add the laundry soap directly into the tub of the washer along with the clothes.

Zote soap also works great to clean fine washables.

                Hope this helps!
                KY Mom

              • Here is the recipe I use for laundry detergent. It cleans the clothes well, does not cost a lot of money, and lasts a long time.

Homemade laundry soap – $28 … A YEAR, based on 6 loads of laundry a week.

1 (4 lb. 12 oz.) Box of Borax
1 (3 lb. 7 oz.) Box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
1 (3 lb.) Container of OxyClean -(optional but recommended)
2 (14.1 oz.) Bars of Zote Soap- Found in the detergent aisle (we chose to do pink for the scent but the white would be just fine. You can also use Fels Naptha)
1 (4 lb.) Box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda-(*Use any baking soda currently in the kitchen first. Buy new to replace your supply.)
1-2 (55 oz.) Bottle of Purex Crystals Fabric Softener- Found in the detergent aisle (This is 100% optional, but it makes the laundry smell good the towels nice and soft.)

The hardest, most time consuming part is grating the Zote soap. Use a hand grater (fine side) or a food processor on the Zote soap. The soap dissolves just fine, even in cold water.

Mix everything together in a 5 gallon plastic bucket. After mixing, keep the bucket covered with the lid. (5 gallon buckets & lids are sold in the paint section at Walmart, Lowes, etc.)

I use only 1 or 2 teaspoons per laundry load. If you have a HE washer (as I do), just add the laundry soap directly in the washer barrel. (This is a low sudsing formula, but gets the clothes clean.)

If you opted to put the Purex Crystals in your batch, save the container. You can scoop some detergent right into your bottle and use the cap as your measuring spoon. There are 3 lines on the side and the middle one is approximately 2 tablespoons.

(Our local Walmart had all of the supplies, except Zote. So, we ordered that online.)
                -How Does she dot com

*Zote has long been a laundry staple in many households in Mexico. Zote soap is made with coconut oil and tallow and is scented with citronella oil.
The citronella oil makes it also useful as a mosquito repellent. If you are working outside (garden, etc.), that is a nice bonus.

I have been working with her for the past 15 years. She took to it like a fish to water. She know tactics and how to load every gun in the house. She looks good in a Ghilie suite also.

There is nothing better looking to me as a woman on the range shooting. That shows me that when the SHTF she will stand and fight to protect her family.

Its too late to learn this stuff after the SHTF. Go to some class for find someone that can teach you how to use these tools. TAKE YOUR WHOLE FAMILY. You just don’t know when you 11 year old will have to take care of his/her brothers and sisters. It has happened before it will happen again.

I have been teaching people how to shoot for the past 30 years. Weather it be LEO or civilians. Only one time has one of my LEO trainees had to use it. The civilians thank God have not. I did get a call form a lady that I taught, who just finished her Illinois CC class. She told me she finished 3rd out 25 shooters males and females. She was the #1 female. I just pray to God that she doesn’t have to use it.

WHY IS IT OK FOR ME AS A LEO TO CARRY AND NOT A CIVILIAN? I ask myself this all the time. My life is no more important! I believe that you should be able to protect yourself. Just remember that I can’t do anything as a LEO until a crime is committed. Don’t be a victim!!

I agree 100% with the universal language of the sound of a shotgun racking in a round, the dot from a laser on the chest. or just looking down the bore of a 45 or 12Ga.

I would add one more to his one liners in the article.
NEVER COME TO A GUN FIGHT WITH A KNIFE.

        AIM SMALL MISS SMALL
        Sgt.

        • if a soldier or a cop wants to protect HIS life with an AR15, then why shouldn’t WE be able to? my wife took to shootin’ like fat takes to a mother-in-law too sarge…. it’s a great feelin’ to know she’s got my back…now, if i could just get her to buy an extra box of tampons..

        • From my own experience with over zealous base security, even a 5.56 and a 9mm look big enough to park a car in it when it is in your face.

          • Can:
            Thats a 10/4
            Sgt.

        • Mother was from Texas and was a crack shot. She was known to shoot crows out of the sky. She made sure all her children knew how to handle and shoot guns as well. I have always had great respect for women who can handle a gun.

      32. We all know Wyatt Earp was a famous gunslinger, but I was surprised to find out he wasn’t even considered all that fast, even in his prime. From what I’ve read, he rarely got the first shot off- but did get the last one. A quote I’ve read that’s attributed to him as being his best advice for winning a gun fight:
        “Shoot with deliberation…quickly”
It doesn’t matter how fast you can “skin that smokewagon” and get off the first shot but miss, if the guy you’re shooting at is slightly slower- but doesn’t miss. You could be dead before you had time for a followup shot. Alot of times I’ve tried to get a point across to my daughter that sometimes, going just alittle slower in life can wind up being faster in the end.

        • It’s the old saying right there.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast (and accurate).

        • sounds like you two learned a little bit from racin’!

          • Nope, from the Canadian Armed Forces Gunfighter course, my Bison armoured vehicle course, my leadership course and a lot of range time including a good deal of IDPA and multi-gun.

      33. I like “The Men Who Stare at Goats Weapon, the Predator!

I bought one, comes with an instructional DVD, also got the Weapon disarms video. Sharing with the wife, also got her a new Buck knife.

Peter Brusso has more on knife fighting, martial arts, and of course guns. I would not want to be on his bad side.

You go ahead and Give Peace A Chance, I’ll stand over here
        and cover ya!!

      36. Honestly, I feel more secure when I’m carrying. Not because I know I can kill someone, but because I know that I have a better chance of keeping someone from killing me.

      37. Anymore, I feel “Naked” without my concealed carry. I can’t believe I didn’t carry when I was younger…

      38. Gun……what gun? That’s my “Attitude adjustment tool” !

      39. BAM! Your dead! Did you have your weapon in your hand or in your holster? Were you 100% aware of your surroundings, acquire your target & fire, apparently not, your dead. Was the shooter just out of vision, weapon drawn but you’ll never know, your dead. The body armor you bought to show off to everyone was elsewhere.Of course that’s a good place for it because you don’t need it now, your dead. How did all the weapons & ammo you own, work out for you? Too bad all those pictures & videos of you & your friends shooting at things that don’t shoot back didn’t protect you but you did look COOL. To bad you never realized that things can happen in the blink of an eye & the shooter is locked & loaded, finger on trigger.
Too bad this was one of the many times a day that you lived your life, distracted.Damn!Surely you weren’t texting.
        But,But,But..

      40. Use to the criminal was the shady character that sneaks through your window at night, now it’s the the thug with three letters Emblaze on his body armor kicking in your front door!

If you ain’t paranoid you ain’t paying attention

      41. That is a LAPUA rifle the lovely lady is holding, named after the city in Finland.
The Lapua Magnum has a muzzle energy of some 4,800 ft-lbf, and works both anti-personnel AND anti-materiel.
Up to 1,000 meters it is LAUGHING at body armor, and is effective up to some 1,800 meters.
        I LOVE that lady … 😉
